I don't care if Monday's blue
Is it bad that I'm totally ready for the TV doldrums known as December? I need a break, people. In the meantime, though, some notes on Monday night...

I still find Gossip Girl entertaining, but much like The O.C. before it, Josh Schwartz has created a lead couple (or non-couple, as the case may be) that is simultaneously boring and annoying. I have to confess, the highlight of the episode for me came at the beginning, when Blair was going through her list of potential suitors. I felt all sorts of pop-culture savvy when I immediately realized they were all character names from the John Hughes Brat Pack movies.

Chuck/Blair continue to be entertaining, and the greater prominence of Dorota around the devilish duo is delightful. :) Frankly, Chuck's limo does not seem like equivalent stakes for the fabulous Dorota. She joined Facebook! HA!

No surprise, of course, that Chuck and Blair selected their Versions 2.0 for each other. I know people want them to just get together already, but I just can't picture them happy and schmoopy with each other. It's sort of like Barney/Robin--I'm more invested in the idea of 'someday' than in actually wanting them right now.

But sequins, Chuck? Really?

Meanwhile, over in the Land of I Just Don't Care, we have Dan and Serena. And Aaron. And Lexi. Oh, and Blake's boobs, which should really have their own screen credit, given how much we've seen of them this season.

So here's the thing. Dan and Serena, as a couple, are boring. Dan and Serena, as 'friends,' are...also boring. To this most un-dynamic duo, the writers have added Aaron, who is basically...Dan-lite. Sure, he's a photographer instead of a writer, and he's all 'artistic ladies man' instead of a fumbling virgin. But he's basically the same guy, only with less-pronounced cheekbones and even worse hair. He's not hot, and he, too, is BORING.

Then, just to make the sucking void of awful even more so, the writers introduce Aaron's ex, Lexi. She's one of those characters that's 'witty' only in the writer's head, and who would send most people running in the opposite direction. Inexplicably, only Serena seems to pick up on this.

So there are these four characters, and some stuff happens, and the only thing I really remember is that Blake Lively always seems to be half an inch from a wardrobe malfunction.

And then there are the triangles. I'm a Rufus/Lily girl, but even they aren't really doing it for me. How many times has Lily been married? She's approaching Liz Taylor territory. I did love Rufus's little speech, but part of me thinks he deserves a real love interest, who lasts more than an episode, just so Lily sees how it feels. (Yeah, he was married. That's so last season.) Also, I hated Lily's dress at the Snowflake Ball.

Speaking of dresses...I am so not a Little J fan. If she's so bored, why doesn't she go back to school? In this world of teenagers HOME SCHOOLING THEMSELVES, I'm sure catching up on the missed work would be no problem.

I'm glad Nate chose Vanessa, mostly because it meant he didn't choose Little J and her Eyeliner of Doom. The backlit dress was stupid and juvenile, and not worth the plot time. And was Little J's comment at the end about spending more time on the UES supposed to imply she's going back to school? 'Cause I still don't care.

Meanwhile, I'm so over Heroes that I have no idea why I'm still watching. Seth Green and Breckin Meyer were the only redeeming aspects this week, and they're guest stars. Every sixth episode feels like a giant do-over. There's no continuity. There's no plot progression. No one ever dies (except recurring characters that I actually like). The integration of storylines is practically nonexistent--it's like four separate shows that happen to share an hour.

So why can't I stop watching?

Also, if you have not already done so, please feel free to request a fic for my 12 Days of Crossovers Fic Challenge!

Dan's cheekbones are easily his best feature. They're practically his *only* feature when he's around S--he has more personality around the other characters.

And while I think a Dan/Blair relationship would be fascinating, in no way, shape, or form do I think C/B can ever approach the utter snoozefest that is D/S. In no small part because Leighton Meester >>>>> Blake Lively.

I guess that's where I don't necessarily agree...I don't think that Chuck/Blair has completely run its course. Sure, they're effed up and dancing circles around each other, but that's just how some relationships are. And certainly, if taken too far it will get boring and played out, but for me it hasn't reached that point. Part of what I enjoy so much might be the fact that I think Leighton and Ed are head and shoulders above the rest of the teen cast, talent-wise, so I enjoy seeing them share the screen.

Plus, there's something inherently fascinating about the interplay between Blair, who had based the entirety of her romantic life with Nate on a fairy-tale construct, being attracted to and developing feelings for Chuck, who is anything but Prince Charming. Eventually, I think they will have to make a go of a 'real' relationship, which will inevitably crash and burn, and then, perhaps they can move on.

And while I can't disagree that Blake's verbal affectations are cringe-worthy, objectively I think she's a beautiful girl.

I completely agree with Blair/Dan!!

Ive been shipping them since season 1 and I think its wrong how the writers just started up something where she put her faith in him and he screwed her over. It was a great story arc but so incomplete! I was expecting Dan to go over there and apologize or atleast find out that Vanessa was black mailing Blair for soemthing that wasnt even her fault in the first place!

I second Penn's bone structure and Blake- I alternate between loving her and hating her.

Tell me about it. Blair is my favorite character but I miss first season Blair. This seasonher hair looks bad, she's desperate and she needs Dan to pull herself together!

Im a multi shipper though. Im rooting for both Chuck/Blair and Dan/Blair. So Im torn between Penn and Ed for the shows hottest guy.

Let me rephrase my hotness comment.

I can relate to Blair so much so I want her to be with the guy that I think is the hottest. Does that make any sense? Lol...

I dont like Nate personally so I dont likehim for Blair. I like Dan and Chuck- their persoanlity and their physical attributes. So I want either of them for Blair. I like brown eyes btw. Especially Penn's. I think he looks very much like James Franco. [swoon]

While I'm sure this discussion you're having is utterly fascinating to the two of you, between comparing noses to genitalia and now dubbing brown eyes "the color of shit," it may be time to adjourn to your own livejournals.

It's an LJ belonging to one of my good friends, which I frequent on a regular basis. Unlike you, a hit and run poster who decided to make themselves comfy and then be rude.

It's not about Penn or Blake seeing your posts, but rather other people in fandom...who can assume, by the content of what you're posting, that you're a complete twit. There's nothing wrong with discussing or even dissing an actor's physical appearance, but you don't have to be so obnoxious about it. Especially in a complete stranger's journal.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

I had a civil, rational response typed up, which you can read below. I was willing to be nice, to err on the side of the benefit of the doubt, but forget it. I have no interest in being understanding of someone that I don't know at all, who comes into my LJ, makes crass comments, and then proceeds to respond in a completely rude, over-the-top manner when a trusted friend (that would be [info]monimala, in case you were wondering) tells you that hey, this isn't cool. The fact that you then went to her LJ solely to post an obnoxious, rude post, and then came back to my LJ to call her a cunt, among other bullshit, is beyond the pale. You don't like what she says, thinks she's being a bitch for saying it, fine. Try to rise above. That's what I'm going to do, instead of telling you exactly what I think of your attitude in a profanity-laced tirade.

So please, take your Blake-hating, Penn-loving foul mouth and express it elsewhere.

Good grief, people. I go away for one weekend, and this is what happens? I've never been interested in friends-locking my journal--I welcome the different perspectives that come from 'meeting' new people on the net--but sometimes it's tempting to just crawl in a hole.

Look, I'm certainly not above bitchery. I have often-irrational hatred of plenty of actors/actresses/musicians, and I'm not shy about expressing it. But in my mind, there's an imaginary line, and I definitely feel it's been crossed here, [info]suspiria_1. Maybe I would feel differently if I knew you better, and had a better feel for your style and sense of humore. Maybe I'm being fussy and uptight, but I can't imagine going into an LJ where I'd never commented before, and comparing a nose to a penis. It's crude and unnecessary. And while my eyes are green, not brown, you have no way of knowing that. Even if my eyes were brown, it's certainly true that your comment shouldn't truly affect me, but that doesn't mean it's not rude.

One of the first rules of writing is to know your audience. The internet fosters a false sense of closeness, an impression that we 'know' someone based on blog posts and fandom interests. At the same time, the almost total anonymity of the web encourages many to ignore most of the conventions and niceties that are required to operate in 'polite society.'

As I said, I'm not looking to f-lock this journal, and I'm really not interested in banning people from commenting. And I am certainly not saying anyone has to agree with my opinions, fannish or otherwise. I guess I'm just looking for a little decorum.

Finally, no, this is not [info]monimala's LJ. But she is a good friend, whom I've know for years, and whose friendship extends beyond the pseudo-reality of the internet. I had expressed my distaste to her re: the penis comment, but due to events in my life over the past several days, I have been too busy and exhausted to formulate a response. The addition of the shit-brown eyes comment prompted her, as a friend, to step into the fray.

So I've said my piece. If you'd still like to participate in discussions in a genitalia- and excrement-free manner, feel free.

LOl yeah I know I was going to be hanged for getting fed up and attacking in return after being personally insulted by being a called a twit. She's your friend. I'm not. I get it and I would do the same.I was just confused why she decided to take it upon herself to tell me off if you didn't. Like WTF? Now that I know you wanted her too i guess I have to take back some of what i said.

I had a feeling i overstayed my welcome long before though. Despite that I made the stupid mistake of replying to LadyMacbeth just for the heck of it assuming you must not have really cared or you would have said something sooner and the convo would eventually die out without it blowing up like this. Same thing with the penis comment. I knew that was mean but since didn't say anything I made the brown eyes comment which isn't half as worse thinking that wouldn't be a big deal either. No one's ever taken offense to that one before. *shrug* I apologize for it all now that i do know you were offended.

But i get the hint. Even if you didn't ban me, i wasn't going to come back after this anyway.

Lily's dress looked like it was designed to stanch some sort of torso wound or stabilize a broken collarbone. I kind of agree about Rufus deserving a real love interest for balance, but then the part of me that's all "BUT SHE IS HIS MUSE!!!!!" drowns out the logic of how continuously they fail to get it together as a couple.

Oh, I still want them together, no question. I mean, you don't pine this long for nothing. :) But hey, it's been this long, why not a little action for Rufus in the interim?

Aaron just creeps me out. He looks so skeevy! And he possibly one of least charismatic actors I've ever seen.

How did I miss out on a fellow Trory fan shares my love for GG (CB)? I totally agree with everything you said (except Nate choosing V, cuz I hate her. He should have chosen neither.) I think DS is SO incredible boring on and off! I used to like both Serena and Dan, but now I find Serena appalling and Dan varies from amusing to uninteresting from ep to ep. Together however, as a couple as friends, they are truly yawn worthy.

And yes, Leighton and Ed are so above everyone else that it's ridiculous. I know you consider TWOP pretentious (though haven't it always been so?) but at least they got one thing right - Leighton should get a Golden Globe nomi for her portrayal of Blair Waldorf! Btw, catch the puppets show recap of GG on my blog (advo88.blogspot.com) for ep. 2.14, I think you'll find it amusing.

I used to be a Rufus/Lily shipper but I can't stand them right now. (I'm actually a huge fan of KR but you wouldn't know that from my recent rantings of her (Lily)).

CB FTW! =D

Also completely agreement about Heroes. I'm not sure why I still watch it myself either. And they killed Sark Adam!!!
