TV Overload

Private Practice, Cooper/Violet
So much TV, so little time. So far, the only new show that I've tried and abandoned this season is True Blood. My Own Worst Enemy and Life On Mars haven't premiered yet, so we'll see how those go. I'm still watching 90210, although it's getting harder and harder to justify why. I checked out The Ex List, and it's cute enough to warrant another viewing. Was bored last Sunday, and ended up watching Valentine, mostly for Autumn Reeser and Patrick Fabian (Taylor Townshend! and Professor Lasky!). Total brain candy, and I doubt that I'd bother to DVR it, but if I'm home, I'll probably watch. I also got totally sucked into Life, which is entirely the fault of [info]monimala

So far this week, I've managed to watch The Big Bang Theory, Chuck, Heroes, Life, NCIS, Bones, Private Practice, and CSI: NY. HIMYM, GG, TSCC, 90210, Privileged, and two episodes of FNL (not to mention my continued backlog of House, entourage, Lost, and SPN) still await me. *sigh*

Here's the thing. I love HIMYM. I love Barney. I love Barney/Robin. It's a fantastic show that has become a part of my cultural lexicon. But minute for minute, I laugh longer and harder at The Big Bang Theory. This was a show I fully expected to loathe, that I started watching only as a time-filler. But dude, I love this show. My level of geekitude is moderate (increased by an engineering degree and an undying love of Star Wars, but tempered by a lack of any sort of videogame or roleplaying savvy), but this show totally speaks my language. Plus the characters are endearing, in large part because of--not in spite of--their flaws. And really, how often do you come across a show that makes visual jokes out of non-Newtonian fluids?

I continue to very much enjoy Chuck as well. It's a bit of a candy-coated show for me--nothing particularly deep or thought-provoking, but good, solid entertainment. Plus, Captain Awesome is still, well, awesome. Bartowski. Chuck Bartowski. )

Heroes continues to show flashes of greatness in between tidal waves of mediocrity. The nearly continual time-jumping has gotten old. The Once and Future Peter )

I am in Life overload, after marathoning S1 online and then NBC doing the two-episodes-per-week schedule. I'm still not quite sure how I feel about the changes made for S2. Really bad lipstick )

I still love me some NCIS, but I can't say that I found this week's episode overly engaging. Cupcake Caper )

Bones: Still not as good without Zack. Wasn't impressed with this week's NotZack. And yes, writers, we get it: Temperance isn't religious. Get a new idea already.

Private Practice still has lots of pretty people. That said...Wow, incest really is the new black )

Okay, I can admit it: I was wrong. When Bones ended last season, I wasn't particularly upset about the developments. The execution was a little sloppy, but I honestly didn't much care that Zack was going to be gone. Although I liked his character early on, he grew to annoy. I didn't really see any positive growth. After watching several episodes this season, though, I will say it again: I was wrong.

And I thought I was OCD )

I very much enjoyed the return of CSI: NY. It's still my favorite of the three, largely because no one in the cast makes me want to throw things at the screen, unlike the insufferable Horatio Caine and the why-couldn't-they-kill-her-off Sara Sidle. Cue kicky remix of The Who )

Tonight's lineup: Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy, while Supernatural gets DVRed.

TV roundup

The O.C., Ben McKenzie, Ryan
For the record? Privileged is better than 90210. Michael Cassidy (AKA Zack on The O.C.) is completely adorable. Now if only I could get Ben McKenzie back on my TV...

People I care about on 90210: Kelly, Brenda, Ryan, Harry, Aunt Becky, Dixon, Silver, and Navid. People I do not care about: Annie, Ethan, Ty, Naomi, Adrianna.

Things that suck: the DirecTV on-screen showing a listing for Eureka and instead airing Scare Tactics. Bastards.

Bones didn't really interest me tonight, aside from some of the B/B relationship stuff. Also, I love Sweets.

I do not understand people who no longer watch a show posting on a message board solely to bitch about how the show sucks and they no longer watch it. Just GO AWAY. Post about shows you watch, dammit.

Look, I get that a lot of people were upset about last season's Bones finale. Frankly, it didn't surprise me, and while it was rushed (thank you, asinine writers' strike that accomplished nothing), I can't say I have a problem with what happened. That said, if you're pissed enough about the plot development to no longer watch, that's fine. But stop bitching already. Eesh.

On the other hand, premiere spoilers )

I'm too tired to go into detail, but I enjoyed 90210 enough to keep watching. I must say, I enjoy the adults much more than the teens, probably because I am one. And yes, I'm very much hot for teacher. Hi, Ryan Eggold! Yum.

*sigh* So I realize that everyone is pretty much OMGWTFBBQ about the Bones finale, but I gotta say...I'm surprisingly okay with it. Even more, I sorta saw it coming months ago. It's really all about Booth and Brennan )

In other news, I absolutely loved the Gossip Girl finale. Shut up, Serena )

Also watched the OTH finale... 1) Shut up, Peyton. 2) Shut up, Lucas. 3) I vote Brooke/Dr. Hottie. 4) Haley-Nathan-Jamie-Quentin for the effing WIN. Love them. That is all Oh! Except that the thing with Dan was AWESOME and the ending with Lucas was 27 kinds of lame.

Seeley Booth, Bones, David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel, Temperance Brennan
Can I just say how much I absolutely adore Bones? The show has always put out consistently strong Christmas episodes, and this years was no exception. Good guest stars, compelling personal issues, and an oddball case that certainly tied to the Christmas spirit. Santa and skeletons don't mix )

By the way, there are still a few slots open for my 12 Days of Veronica Fic Challenge. If you didn't see the original post, I am accepting requests for Veronica/InsertGuyHere pairings in an effort to write a dozen fics to be posted daily from December 25th to January 5th. Numbers 1-5, 7, and 9 have been claimed already, so get your pairing (and numeric prompt) in now! For full details, go here.

Justice has been done, my friends. Spoiler cut just in case ) will not be the next American Idol. The only thing that could have made it more perfect would have been and again ) being in the bottom three instead of one more time ). But last time, I swear ) is safe, so all is right with the world.

Bones was awesome tonight. I've really grown to love this show as so much more than an harmless diversion. The developing friendship between Booth and Brennan makes me squee like a fangirl, but I also like how they're taking things slowly. They acknowledge that a spark is there without going overboard. The look on Brennan's face at the end when she realized just what Booth had risked for her was awesome. Zack, Hodgins, and Angela also continue to rock, and what an interesting potential 'ship twist they introduced tonight.

I'm quite excited about tonight's upcoming episode of CSI: NY. It looks to be very Danny-centric. The only thing I'm a bit leery of is that, based on the previews, the fandom is going to be just erupting with Mac/Danny slash fic. Not my thing.

Run, Luke, run!

Finally got around to watching last week's episode of Gilmore Girls, and while there were some really strong scenes, parts of it totally frustrated me. The Prodigal Daughter Returns )

I enjoyed Bones last night. Zack is totally my favorite of the squints. He was adorable when he figured out the "phone number." Sadly, Emily Deschanel is easily the weakest link in the cast. She needs to spend less time looking like she just sucked on something sour. I'm still loving David Boreanaz--he totally brings the funny. Next week looks interesting. I sense jealousy on the horizon!

I am really looking forward to tonight's episode off Veronica Mars, although I'm not entirely sure when I'll have time to watch it. I'm going out tonight with friends for our annual pre-Thanksgiving dinner.

Speaking of which, HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all my fellow Americans!
Chase, House, Jesse Spencer, rat
Haven't had a chance to watch last night's episodes of Gilmore Girls or Supernatural yet, although I'm looking forward to both shows. My viewing time was devoted to the FOX network instead. There's a part of me that wants to boycott because of the Arrested Development situation, but depriving myself of Prison Break and House would hurt me more than them. Yeah, I'm weak...

Anyway, I really enjoyed both Bones and House last night, although I think I need to rewatch both shows. It's hard to catch the subtle details when you have an almost-three and an almost-two-year old in the house. (Good thing they're really cute. :) )

Brennan's complete lack of pop-culture savvy and utter ignorance of social niceties continues to be my least favorite aspect of Bones. Although, it was pretty funny when the one club chick said "She's using Cartesian philosophy to say she's down with the music." Heh. I don't know what that means )

House is such a magnificent bastard. Even though they occasionally show his human side, they haven't woobiefied him, thank goodness. Cameron, on the other hand, continues to be utterly useless and annoying. Chase and Foreman snarking on her crush on House was awesome, though. Pissy )

New Veronica Mars tonight! Should we place our bets as to whether Weevil will actually be in the episode?

I'm seriously considering signing up for [info]fanfic100, but I can't decide what I want to claim (that hasn't already been taken). [info]sadiekate has laid claim to VM's Sheriff Lamb, and I highly recommend checking her stories out. Some are Veronica/Lamb, which I didn't think I would like, but they're awesome. Her Lamb character and backstory pieces are also really interesting.
Sara Tancredi, Sarah Wayne Callies, Prison Break, Wentworth Miller, Michael Scofield
Dude. Have I mentioned how much I love Prison Break? 'Cause I so do. Several times during last night's episode, I told the TV how hot Wentworth Miller is. Egads. How far is it to Joliet? (Okay, the prison where they film is 66 miles from my house, according to MapQuest.)

An origami rose )

For all my fellow Veronica Mars fans, there's a nice interview with Jason Dohring here.

I'm still trying to catch up with the week of TV I missed during my vacation. So far I've made it through Crossing Jordan, Grey's Anatomy, Prison Break, Bones, and House. The sad part is, I don't even know what all I have left. I don't think I've even watched Gilmore Girls from the week before yet. Aaah! TV overload!

I've decided I have mixed feelings about Bones. I enjoy the show, and I'll keep watching, but I guess I feel like Emily Deschanel needs to loosen up a bit. It's not entirely her fault--the fact that the writers keep making her say "I don't know what that means" is annoying. I thought it was cute when Temperance was oblivious to all the guys hitting on her, but to have her be oblivious to all pop culture and a best-selling novelist is just stupid. And seriously, who in their right mind would say something to their boss about having sex with a (sort-of) co-worker on a "field trip"?! Gah. And apparently, the Jeffersonian is supposed to be the Smithsonian. Whatever.

I still love House, but I wish they'd give Chase something to do, already. Also: shut up, Cameron. I get that she's pretty and all, but did the TB Africa doctor guy really need to fawn all over her? Sheesh.

Oh! When I was watching Grey's Anatomy, and the girl in the wheelchair, Nicole, asked Alex to kiss her? Total Chase flashback. Only, in a weird twist, Alex proved he is smarter than Chase and didn't kiss her, even though it wouldn't have been nearly as squicky, since at least she was 18. After his speech to the girl, I knew at some point during the episode, he was going to plant one on Izzie. Boy, did he ever! I'm trying really hard not to succumb to the Alex/Izzie 'ship, but that was hot. Plus, George was high-fiving her afterwards, which doesn't exactly scream repressed love. *snuggles hopeless George/Izzie 'ship*

Could Bailey be any more awesome? When she stopped the elevator so Derek could cry in the train episode...wow. She obviously cares about the people she works with. And I loved the interns' reactions to her dress.

Burke told the Chief about him and Cristina! Woo! Go Burke! Way to be infinitely more mature than Derek.

*sigh* I admit, I was happy that Derek chose Addison over Meh. But things do not look good for the Drs. Shephard. Addison chose to move for her career, not to be with Derek. And Derek chose to stop talking to Meh because Bailey told him to, not because he wanted to. These are not good things.

I actually liked Meh for trying to get everyone away from the "pregnant" guy. I couldn't believe he and his wife weren't angrier. I would have been screaming.

I still love me some George. His scenes with Burke were absolutely priceless. And when Burke told him he was still his guy? Too sweet. I can't believe that woman's heart caught on fire. Bizarre.

Tuesday night TV traffic jam

Supernatural, Jensen Ackles, Dean Winchester
I'll be posting a separate entry for Lost, because let's face it--it deserves one.

Gilmore Girls )

Supernatural )

Bones )

House )

Wow. That was long. Damn crowded Tuesday night TV.

I'm not planning on watching Reunion tonight, because CSI is premiering. Also because it is dumb. I expect it will experience a precipitous drop in ratings, not only because of CSI, but also because two weeks have passed since the premiere. But that's just my feeling.

Happiness is season (and series) premieres! I watched Bones and House tonight (while TiVo-ing Gilmore Girls and Supernatural; actually, I TiVo-ed all four, but I watched FOX live), and I really, really enjoyed them both.

First, Bones. I expected to like it, and I did. It's not really surprising, given that I'm a total sucker for nearly all procedural dramas (CSI: Miami being a noteworthy exception, due to my aversion to David Caruso, and even that I gave 2 1/2 seasons before giving up). Plus, it has Angel! I realize that David Boreanaz isn't exactly Oscar-caliber, but I like him anyway. :) I also really enjoyed Emily Deschanel (spelling?) as Dr. Brennan. Mildly spoilery thoughts behind the cut )

Oh, House, how do I love thee? This show rocks my world. Hugh Laurie is a friggin' god. Although seeing the commercial for the S1 DVD and hearing him speak with his own accent was weird, since I haven't actually watched the special features on the set yet. Thoughts and LOVE behind the cut )
