Wednesday procedurals

blue eyes, CSI: NY, Eddie Cahill
Okay, I can admit it: I was wrong. When Bones ended last season, I wasn't particularly upset about the developments. The execution was a little sloppy, but I honestly didn't much care that Zack was going to be gone. Although I liked his character early on, he grew to annoy. I didn't really see any positive growth. After watching several episodes this season, though, I will say it again: I was wrong.

And I thought I was OCD )

I very much enjoyed the return of CSI: NY. It's still my favorite of the three, largely because no one in the cast makes me want to throw things at the screen, unlike the insufferable Horatio Caine and the why-couldn't-they-kill-her-off Sara Sidle. Cue kicky remix of The Who )

Tonight's lineup: Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy, while Supernatural gets DVRed.

Living in the TiVo age

Coach Eric Taylor, Tami/Eric, Tami Taylor
I spent the weekend up at my parents' house, which was pretty relaxing and featured good food. Of course, now I'm back at work, which sucks.

I did have the chance to catch up on some of my TV viewing, which is good, since the TiVo's getting awfully full.

First, and best, is Friday Night Lights. I just love it so much, even if I didn't think this episode was as overwhelmingly awesome as some previous ones. Kyle Chandler in boxers. Yum. )

I made sure to record Cold Case last night because it featured the music of U2. They chose good songs, and the episode was fine, but I just didn't feel the music was used as effectively as it could have been.

Now, I realize that this is total blasphemy for many CSI fans, but I really don't miss Grissom. Like, at all. I've felt for a while now that William Peterson is burned out with the show, and I just don't enjoy watching that. Plus, Grissom/Sara makes me gag. Perhaps his little sabbatical will re-energize him. Reverse Forensics )

I really think CSI: NY is my current favorite incarnation of the franchise. I genuinely like all the characters, and enjoy their interactions. Plus, none of the "personal stuff" that they've brought in so far has made me want to spork my eyes out. Fake Alibis, Inc. )

I also watched the last two episodes of Crossing Jordan last night. Poor Bug )

Fandom drive-by

  • Apr. 19th, 2006 at 8:36 PM
Seeley Booth, Bones, David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel, Temperance Brennan
Justice has been done, my friends. Spoiler cut just in case ) will not be the next American Idol. The only thing that could have made it more perfect would have been and again ) being in the bottom three instead of one more time ). But last time, I swear ) is safe, so all is right with the world.

Bones was awesome tonight. I've really grown to love this show as so much more than an harmless diversion. The developing friendship between Booth and Brennan makes me squee like a fangirl, but I also like how they're taking things slowly. They acknowledge that a spark is there without going overboard. The look on Brennan's face at the end when she realized just what Booth had risked for her was awesome. Zack, Hodgins, and Angela also continue to rock, and what an interesting potential 'ship twist they introduced tonight.

I'm quite excited about tonight's upcoming episode of CSI: NY. It looks to be very Danny-centric. The only thing I'm a bit leery of is that, based on the previews, the fandom is going to be just erupting with Mac/Danny slash fic. Not my thing.

I do love me some Veronica Mars. So much goodness in last night's episode! A quick rundown of thoughts behind the cut )

Also enjoyed CSI: NY last night, despite the Caruso. Ew. And Gary Sinise saying "Rot in hell, you son of a bitch" was kinda hot.

Veronica Mars, strip poker, Eli "Weevil" Navarro, Veronica/Weevil
While this week's episode of Veronica Mars wasn't quite as amazing as "Cheatty Cheatty Bang Bang," it was still awesome. No Cassidy, but there was Weevil, with an added bonus of Mac. Plus, Veronica/Logan snark!

Green-Eyed Monster )

I forgot to mention it last week, but I'm enjoying the addition of Anna Belknap to CSI: NY. I liked Vanessa Ferlito well enough, but I think Anna is doing a fine job as her replacement. Incidentally, Danny was totally checking her out in her first episode. :) I'm enjoying the new season--it's great that Hawkes is out in the field now. The exchange between him and Flack this week, when he handed out his card to the victim's mother, was interesting. Also, I'm seriously loving Flack's new haircut. Makes it easier to see Eddie Cahill's pretty, pretty eyes.

I thought CSI was really, really good last night. I know that a lot of people think that Billy Peterson as Grissom is the be-all, end-all of this show, but I really didn't mind an episode without him. He's a great actor, and it's a great character, but it was a nice change of pace. It was made even more interesting, I think, because Catherine's role was minimized as well. I liked seeing Nicky take point on the case, and I love that, even though statistics and precendent indicated that the little girl wouldn't be found alive, he went with his gut and kept searching. The scene at the hospital, when he teared up? Totally got me. I also liked seeing Sara's obvious concern for him--good to see her having emotions other than pathetic schmoopiness over Gris or rage for some victim. And finally...Greg's "Yoko" comment. Too. Damn. Funny. And did Eric Szmanda hit his head on the car in one scene? I can't imagine that was in the script...

Much gushing about Everwood to follow in a later post...
80s, Fraggle Rock
Real life has just been crazy-busy lately, and it will continue to be so at least through this weekend. I have way too many things that I need to get accomplished by Sunday at six p.m. The fact that my parents are coming to stay with me for two nights prior to moving to their new house is only going to compound the chaos.

Naturally, I insist on making matters more difficult for myself by diving headfirst into a new fanfiction. It's a Veronica Mars story, which there have been a slew of ever since the wonderfulness of Tuesday's episode, but I actually started mine before the episode aired, and it is not Veronica/Logan. Rather, it's a mildly angsty (at least at first) future fic that spirals into a piece of Veronica/Weevil smut. I think I shall dedicate it to [info]kieyra, since her brain is probably melting from all the Logan squeeage lately.

Before I forget, [info]filmobsessed137, sorry I haven't voted in your icon poll. I haven't been online much at home recently, and I can't access LJ at work. (Yay for posting by e-mail!) If memory serves, though, I liked the second-from-the-bottom one best. Hope that helps! And I have every intention of working on the stories in Hewes Brothers Gas, but I honestly don't know when I'll get to it. That said...any chance you'd be willing to make me a new show page for my fic site? Since I'm writing VM fic and all, I'll need someplace to put it... Let me know when/if you might have time, and I'll get you some pictures and a quote for it. Oh, and when might the awards site be back up? I'm curious to see who won. :)

Almost had a heart attack last night watching American Idol. Who the heck is voting for Scott week after week? I'm sorry to see Nadia go, but better her than Bo. I think I would have stopped watching if Bo was eliminated. Also: shut up, Constantine.

I continue to enjoy CSI: NY, but I didn't really understand why Danny was so adamant about following through with the case. The fact that he defied Mac was kinda not cool, and yet, I liked that he did it. How contradictory is that? And Eddie Cahill is still hot. :)

TV round-up

Sydney, Will, Alias
Today is my first day back at work after being out sick for two days. In all honesty, I probably could have come back yesterday, but I was exhausted and I desperately needed to clean my house, so I stayed home. Anyway, I still don't feel all that great, with a persistent cough and an overall feeling of fatigue, but I'll survive.

Watched House for the first time on Tuesday night, mostly because Veronica Mars wasn't on. I really enjoyed it, and I'm totally crushing on Dr. Chase (played by Jesse Spencer). Definitely a step up from that dippy movie with Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning. Remember when Brittany Murphy was in Clueless, and was both funny and non-skeletal? I miss that Brittany. Remember when Dakota Fanning wasn't unnaturally prepossessing for her age, and therefore non-creepy? No? Me either.

Anyway, House. Once VM returns to the schedule, I think I might have to start taping it. Which means my friends can tape their own episodes of One Tree Hill. (Since I tape Gilmore Girls anyway, I've just been taping both and loaning them the cassettes. I'm my friends' TV pimp, y'all.)

Didn't see American Idol last night, although I can't say I'm heartbroken over any of the 4 rejects. And as shameful as it is to admit it...I actually find Ryan Seacrest somewhat appealing. I mean, I know he's a tool and all, but the self-deprecating humor and gentle pokes at AI itself are rather endearing.

Yeah, I need help.

Haven't watched last night's Alias yet, but it has The Sark, so how bad can it be? (Seriously, how bad? Anyone?) *Note to self: Make a Sark icon*

Watched CSI: New York, and I'm loving Flack a little more each week. For one thing, Eddie Cahill has absolutely magnificent blue eyes. He did pretty much nothing for me when he was Tag on Friends, but then I saw him as Jim Craig in Miracle, and something changed. Incidentally, if you haven't seen that movie, rent it NOW. I don't care if you don't like hockey. It is awesome and inspirational and just flat-out rocks. *2nd note to self: Make a Miracle icon.*

Deck the halls...and the stupid people

Shopping makes me Scrooge-y. I love Christmas. I love giving presents. Not all that keen on the music. But overall, I do not have a bah-humbug mentality. Unfortunately, I waited too long this year to start shopping, which limits what I am able to do on the internet. Particularly since I need gifts for sixteen people by Saturday night, and as of yesterday afternoon, I had bought one thing for one of those people.

So, I went Christmas shopping last night. I went straight from work, since I was hoping to be finished and home in time for The O.C. Unfortunately, since I did not go home and change, I was stuck wearing my high-heeled boots...and I just now realized that I had a pair of Keds in the trunk of my car the whole time. Doh! Needless to say, by the time I finally got home (15 minutes after The O.C. started, my feet were absolutely killing me. And I'm still not even close to being finished, which means I have to brave yet another mall tonight. I am so not a fan of people. They're loud and annoying and they just get in the way. Bleah.

I actually need to buy both Christmas and birthday presents for my godson and his baby brother, as we are having a joint birthday party for them tomorrow. This weekend is going to be so insanely busy. And at some point I will also need to complete the shopping for my family... Oy.

Ended up taping the last 40 minutes of The O.C., since I had started watching my tape of CSI: NY yesterday morning, and I wanted to finish that. Danny is definitely my favorite character. He's so adorable--both with and without the glasses.

Many thanks to everyone I have received Christmas cards from, including [info]sullymel, [info]screaming_mimie, [info]filmobsessed137, and [info]miskitt! I loved the Care Bears magnets, Chris! If I'm forgetting anyone, I apologize...I have a sore throat and my brain isn't working too well. I did appreciate them all, I promise. And if you haven't received one from me yet, that's partly because I'm slow, and partly because I may not have your address. Last call if you would like a card! E-mail your info to anglgrace@hotmail.com.

U2!U2!U2!U2!

Happiness is WXRT-Chicago playing U2's new album IN ITS ENTIRETY ALL DAY LONG today, starting at 9:45 this morning, and still going strong as I type this. Sublime happiness would have been ACTUALLY BEING ABLE TO LISTEN TO IT ALL DAY, rather than being trapped at work in a building with nonexistent radio reception and no internet streaming allowed. :( But I'm listening to it no, and I am loving it beyond all reason. Is it November 23rd yet?

I've also decided that, since I have been craving an iPod, I am going to buy the special edition U2 version when it comes out. Yeah, it's more expensive, and probably a bit silly, but they're my favorite band in the world, and it's all pretty black, red, and silver, so what the hell? :) Have I mentioned that I love having disposable income again?

So, last night CBS pissed me off something fierce. There I was, happily watching CSI: NY. The end was rapidly approaching, and then...they cut in with a fucking special report to announce that Arafat is dead! Um, he was still going to be dead in five minutes! Yeah, yeah, I know that it's major world news and all, but seriously, I wanted to see the end of my show. *hmph*

Got to see my godson and his little brother last night--they're so ridiculously cute. My godson is a notoriously fussy eater--he tends to stick solely to baby food, despite being almost two--so it was very exciting when he let me feed him rotini with spaghetti sauce. It was adorable--he looked like a little bird, with his mouth wide open. And of course, his brother, who is almost 1, wants to be just like his big bro, so he did the same thing. Did I mention the cute? *sigh* I want kids.

Ugh. Everwood just kills me. I love this show beyond reason, even though it makes me weepy all the time. Episode thoughts and rants )

You know, I keep watching CSI: Miami week after week, even though I hate the HoCaine and miss the Speedle. I'm kinda digging the new OriginalFlavorGreg-Clone, though. Is he going to be a regular? Will he ever make the credits? Oh, and yay for Teal Redmann getting some post-Gilmore Girls work!

Speaking of the various CSI incarnations...I'm loving NY. I'm still mildly peeved that they felt it necessary to set yet another cop show in NYC, but the Sinise helps make up for it. (Chicago would so be better, though.) And I like Melina Kanka-whatever, even though Providence was lame. Tag-from-Friends is cute and way less annoying than he was as Tag, and the other male character--Danny?--is adorable.

Still loving Desperate Housewives. Speculation and other thoughts )

Am kind of freaked out because my room smells like perfume, and I don't know where it's coming from...
