January
(Technically, When the Cupcakes Aren't the Best Part was the first fic of January, but it was co-written with
monimala, and she wrote the first lines! This is the first fic that was just mine.)
For once, Serenity was living up to its name. The ship was quiet, only the hum of the engines breaking the silence.
But inside River's mind, there was no quiet. She could hear the sleeping thoughts of the crew, scattered throughout the ship.

Don Lamb contemplated the ice cubes slowly melting in his glass of Scotch. It was his birthday, and while normally that would be cause for celebration--particularly with a woman of the slutty persuasion--this year it was hitting him hard.
Christ, he was 35. Thirty-five years old, and what did he have to show for it? No wife, no kids, no prospects. He was stuck in this shitty little town that really only had good weather going for it.
Unwrapped, Veronica/Lamb
March
Eli Navarro was bored. He was home alone for the weekend, with no miscellaneous relatives around to ratchet up the noise level. He'd watched all three Terminator movies back-to-back-to-back, and then couldn't find the remote, so he watched the last hour of Legally Blonde. It didn't hurt that Reese Witherspoon was hot.
He'd ordered a large pepperoni pizza, the remains of which were still sitting on the coffee table. He'd gone through half a box of Thin Mints, a bag of microwave popcorn, and most of a fifth of Jack Daniels. He'd jerked off to alternating fantasies of Jessica Alba and Veronica Mars, but even that got old after a while. If that didn't scream "bored and pathetic," he didn't know what did.
Pity's Optional, Veronica/Weevil
April
The rec center at Hearst was nearly deserted on Saturday night; most people were at frat parties or on dates. Even Mac, her trusty girl-power sidekick, was out living it up with Bronson.
There was no one else in the women's locker room when Veronica changed into her bathing suit, and she hoped the pool would be empty as well. She preferred to swim alone.
The Shallow End, Veronica/Lamb
May
(Again, the first fic of May was co-written with
monimala, this time our VM/HP crackfic sequel, All's Ferret in Love and War. And again, she wrote the first lines! So we'll skip to the next one.)
Veronica Mars glanced up from her lunch and nearly choked on her lemonade. What in the world was he doing here?
She stood up and made her way across the room, weaving among the small cafeteria tables. Plunking herself down in the seat across from his, she asked, "What do you think you're doing?"

Ryan knocked on the door and waited, his hands thrust into the pockets of his pants. He was just about ready to walk away when the door was flung open.
“Ryan? What are you doing here?” Summer asked.
“It’s your birthday. We always get together on your birthday.”
“But Seth and I broke up.”
The Alternate, Ryan/Summer

Dean took a sip of his beer, his eyes never leaving the somewhat weary-looking stripper gyrating on the stage. Dillon, Texas didn't exactly offer the finest in nighttime entertainment, but he'd never been too picky when it involved naked women.
There was a commotion near the door, and he turned, senses kicking to high alert. Too many years of hunting.
Texas Two-Step, Dean Winchester/Tyra Collette
September
Veronica massaged her temples with her fingertips, and tried not to scream. Second semester had only been underway for a week, but the professors hadn't wasted any time piling on the work.
It was Thursday night, and she was working the late shift at the library, while trying to get some of her own work done.
Aiding and Abedding, Veronica/Lamb

People say that men and women can't be just friends, that it always turns into something sexual, but Cooper isn't buying it. He and Violet have been friends for years, and they've never so much as kissed. Sure, there have been friendly pecks on the cheek and the occasional comforting kiss on the forehead, but no honest to God, lip to lip contact.
Incidental, Cooper/Violet

Dan still felt awkward walking into the Palace Hotel. The fact that he and Serena had been almost-but-not-quite dating for two months didn't seem to matter. The concierge still glared as though he expected Dan to start taking hostages at any moment, and Mrs. van der Woodsen treated him like he had the plague.
And then, of course, there was Blair. Blair, Serena had patiently explained, was part of the package. They were BFFs, even on days when they hated each other, and if Dan wanted to date Serena, he had to deal with Blair.
Play Nice, Dan/Blair

Top Five Movie Kisses
5. Bridget/Mark, Bridget Jones's Diary: When they're standing in the snow, and she's in her underwear, and he wraps his overcoat around her? Oy. "Nice boys don't kiss like that." "Oh yes they fucking do." Hee!
4. Anne/Gilbert, Anne of Avonlea: "I don't want diamond sunbursts or marble halls. I just want you." What else is there, really?
3. Han/Leia, The Empire Strikes Back: Nothing like making out when the ship is broken. "I happen to like nice men." "I'm nice men." "No you're not, you're..." KISS! So. Awesome.
2. Kate/Doug, The Cutting Edge: Doug's speech before their final skate gets me every time, and the kiss is the perfect ending to the film. "Don't tell me we're not right for each other, 'cause the way I see it we might not be right for anyone else." "I love you." "Just remember who said it first." *sigh*
1. Keith/Watts, Some Kind of Wonderful: I fell in love with Eric Stoltz in this movie, and to this day, their "practice" kiss in the garage gives me chills, with his fingers clutching at her jeans...guh.
Top Five 'Ships
5. Rory/Tristan, Gilmore Girls: Admittedly, I don't actually care about this pairing anymore, but they were the 'ship that dragged me kicking and screaming into fandom, and for that they must make the list. Plus, they were so pretty!
4. Sydney/Will, Alias: TPTB pretty much killed this one dead, but it was my first love on this show. I'm actually kind of glad that Bradley Cooper got out when he did, because they were never going to do right by Will. At least he got to sleep with Syd once. :)
3. Veronica/Weevil, Veronica Mars: V/Lamb may have eaten my brain lately, but V/Weevil will always be the end game for me on that show. The sparks of chemistry have been flying since the pilot, and I'm just waiting for them to explode.
2. Mal/Kaylee, Firefly: I am rampantly UC when it comes to Firefly 'ships, but this is my favorite one. Kaylee and Mal are my favorite characters on the show, and I love their dynamic as it is. But I'd love it even more if they hooked up.
1. Pacey/Joey, Dawson's Creek: P/J for the win! Yes, I grew to hate the show, because it was lame. But in the end, all was right with the world, because Pacey and Joey ended up together. Season 3 was a beautiful piece of television history, and I will always love it.
Top Five Comfort Foods
5. Chocolate chip cookie dough
4. Butter pecan ice cream
3. White cheddar cheese popcorn
2. Chipotle steak burrito
1. Jay's barbecue potato chips
Top Five Things to do on a Saturday afternoon
5. Watch a movie
4. Read a book
3. Play miniature golf
2. Play with my godson and his brother
1. Watch the Cubs at Wrigley Field
Top Five Jobs you wish you had
5. Graphic designer
4. Walt Disney Imagineer
3. Photographer
2. Novelist
1. Mom
Top Five Jobs you did have
5. Baby-sitter
4. Games hostess, Six Flags
3. Games Training Lead, Six Flags
2. Engineering co-op
1. Engineer

jcd1013, who requested, and I quote: "Your challenge is to write a friendship/possibly UST story between Mal and Kaylee, taking place after Serenity, with maybe a minor confrontation about her dating Simon. An optional word prompt (taken from my fanfiction generator) would be 'dirt'."

Just stumbled across this bit of news at Yahoo!, and it made me smile.
I hope everyone had a good Christmas. Mine was decent; all of the relatives behaved (aside from the ever-bratty 3 1/2 year old). My dad being out of a job did put something of a damper on the festivities, but we tried to remind ourselves that things could be worse.
