Title: Right On Time
Author:

Character/Pairing: Jason/Tyra
Rating: PG
Word Count: 892
Spoilers: None
Disclaimer: If they were mine, Lyla would be long gone and Street would have a lot more to do. But they're not, so I'll have to be content with playing with them.
Summary: When it comes to Jason, Tyra keeps track of certain things. Rather schmoopy.
Author's Note: After seeing a promo for season 3, FNL has pretty much eaten my brain. I've always loved the possibility of Jason/Tyra, and actually have started two other fics besides this one. We'll see how those go.

Oh, FNL, must you always break my heart? Damn, this show is beautiful, and not just 'cause of the pretty boys. (Although those are nice too.) ( Don't go breakin' my heart )

For once, Serenity was living up to its name. The ship was quiet, only the hum of the engines breaking the silence.

Don Lamb contemplated the ice cubes slowly melting in his glass of Scotch. It was his birthday, and while normally that would be cause for celebration--particularly with a woman of the slutty persuasion--this year it was hitting him hard.
Christ, he was 35. Thirty-five years old, and what did he have to show for it? No wife, no kids, no prospects. He was stuck in this shitty little town that really only had good weather going for it.

Eli Navarro was bored. He was home alone for the weekend, with no miscellaneous relatives around to ratchet up the noise level. He'd watched all three Terminator movies back-to-back-to-back, and then couldn't find the remote, so he watched the last hour of Legally Blonde. It didn't hurt that Reese Witherspoon was hot.
He'd ordered a large pepperoni pizza, the remains of which were still sitting on the coffee table. He'd gone through half a box of Thin Mints, a bag of microwave popcorn, and most of a fifth of Jack Daniels. He'd jerked off to alternating fantasies of Jessica Alba and Veronica Mars, but even that got old after a while. If that didn't scream "bored and pathetic," he didn't know what did.

The rec center at Hearst was nearly deserted on Saturday night; most people were at frat parties or on dates. Even Mac, her trusty girl-power sidekick, was out living it up with Bronson.
There was no one else in the women's locker room when Veronica changed into her bathing suit, and she hoped the pool would be empty as well. She preferred to swim alone.

Veronica Mars glanced up from her lunch and nearly choked on her lemonade. What in the world was he doing here?
She stood up and made her way across the room, weaving among the small cafeteria tables. Plunking herself down in the seat across from his, she asked, "What do you think you're doing?"

Ryan knocked on the door and waited, his hands thrust into the pockets of his pants. He was just about ready to walk away when the door was flung open.
“Ryan? What are you doing here?” Summer asked.
“It’s your birthday. We always get together on your birthday.”
“But Seth and I broke up.”

Dean took a sip of his beer, his eyes never leaving the somewhat weary-looking stripper gyrating on the stage. Dillon, Texas didn't exactly offer the finest in nighttime entertainment, but he'd never been too picky when it involved naked women.
There was a commotion near the door, and he turned, senses kicking to high alert. Too many years of hunting.

Veronica massaged her temples with her fingertips, and tried not to scream. Second semester had only been underway for a week, but the professors hadn't wasted any time piling on the work.
It was Thursday night, and she was working the late shift at the library, while trying to get some of her own work done.

People say that men and women can't be just friends, that it always turns into something sexual, but Cooper isn't buying it. He and Violet have been friends for years, and they've never so much as kissed. Sure, there have been friendly pecks on the cheek and the occasional comforting kiss on the forehead, but no honest to God, lip to lip contact.

Dan still felt awkward walking into the Palace Hotel. The fact that he and Serena had been almost-but-not-quite dating for two months didn't seem to matter. The concierge still glared as though he expected Dan to start taking hostages at any moment, and Mrs. van der Woodsen treated him like he had the plague.
And then, of course, there was Blair. Blair, Serena had patiently explained, was part of the package. They were BFFs, even on days when they hated each other, and if Dan wanted to date Serena, he had to deal with Blair.

Due to the impending disconnect from my much beloved TiVo and switch to a (hopefully functional) TiFaux, I've been playing catch-up with several of my shows. (Some, like Supernatural, I'm so far behind on that I have been transferring them to DVD for later viewing). As such, I am mostly up-to-date with Chuck, CSI, Gossip Girl, and Friday Night Lights. A few thoughts on each...
Chuck: With every successive episode of this show, I love it a little bit more. Who would have guessed that the same person who played irritating plot device Madison on Everwood would be so awesome as Ellie? Sarah Lancaster is great in the role, even though I'm still not used to her as a brunette. ( Captain Awesome and the erstwhile Jayne Cobb )
CSI: For so long, this was my favorite show. Now it's not even my favorite incarnation of the franchise. Non-memorable cases, irritating insertions of personal issues (no, I really don't want to know about Sara's abusive past, or her relationship with Gil, or Catherine's daddy issues, or Warrick's absentee wife), and a completely unbalanced use of cast members (Eric Szmanda got more face time when Greggo was just a lab tech) have all caused my love to fade. I still enjoy the show, but if a couple episodes stack up on my TiVo, I'm not all that concerned. Even the Miniature Killer case, which was so damn cool, devolved into The Tale of Gil and Sara and Their Secret Love That Makes Me Want to Spork My Eyes Out. ( Meh )
Gossip Girl: I have to say, this is totally a guilty pleasure show for me. I'm not sure it's reached the great heights of, say, The O.C. season 1, or even Dawson's Creek season 3, but it's a heck of a lot of fun to watch. Pretty people wearing crazy clothes and having inappropriate sex--what's not to love? ( Not just trash TV )
Friday Night Lights: My God, how I love this show. Over-the-top Tyra/Landry plot? Yeah, I don't care. Coach Taylor off at TMU? Forgiven. Because no matter what, Eric, Tami, Matt, Tyra, Landry, Riggins, Street, even effing Buddy Garrity...they are fabulous. ( Deep in the heart of Texas )

Towards the end of last season, I got behind on several shows, including Friday Night Lights. Even though the last five episodes have been sitting on my TiVo all summer, I never bothered to watch them until tonight. I'm not sure what I was waiting for; maybe I needed to be in the right frame of mind. Whatever.
I marathoned those last five episodes this evening, laughing and screaming and crying as I watched. Even though I knew a lot about how things were going to turn out, somehow that didn't lessen the emotional impact. There is a beauty about this show that just amazes me. I've compared it to Everwood before, and I'll do it again. These characters are so real, so flawed, so fantastic. The cast is remarkable (aside from Minka Kelly, whom I still find insufferably annoying as Lyla Garrity). After watching last night's Emmy...quagmire...the omission of Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler seems even more egregious.
I don't know what season two holds for the Dillon Panthers. I'm not even sure if some of them have graduated. I'm just so incredibly grateful that we get the chance to see it.

Life has gotten quite a bit better since my last post. My stress level at work has gone way down, and in the last three days or so I seem to have remembered how to sleep at night.
I'm also quite proud of myself, because I finally joined the community center at the local park district. They have really nice cardio and strength training equipment, and I've gone 5 of the last 6 days. Right now I'm just doing 30 minutes on the bicycle, but it's a start. I can't help but think that the physical activity is helping me sleep better. I've been pretty down on my self-image for a while, and I'm hoping this changes that.
Went and bought FNL on DVD today, which I'm very excited about. One of my friends pre-ordered Heroes for me as a birthday gift, but it's being shipped to her house, so I don't actually have it yet. I also need to go buy House S3.
Two of my summer shows are on hiatus the next week or two (Psych and Burn Notice) due to the US Open, but since I love tennis, I'm totally okay with it. Fortunately, Greek is still around and still awesome!

Despite actually sleeping through the night, I'm absolutely exhausted today. Work is going a little bit better, although still not great. On the plus side, I have all sorts of crazy potential fics rolling around in my head, thanks to the prompts I received on my last post. (Which is still technically open, if anyone wants to join the fun.) I have to say, I really want some of whatever you guys were smoking when you came up with those pairings!
Here's the first one, for better or for worse.

I spent the weekend up at my parents' house, which was pretty relaxing and featured good food. Of course, now I'm back at work, which sucks.
I did have the chance to catch up on some of my TV viewing, which is good, since the TiVo's getting awfully full.
First, and best, is Friday Night Lights. I just love it so much, even if I didn't think this episode was as overwhelmingly awesome as some previous ones. ( Kyle Chandler in boxers. Yum. )
I made sure to record Cold Case last night because it featured the music of U2. They chose good songs, and the episode was fine, but I just didn't feel the music was used as effectively as it could have been.
Now, I realize that this is total blasphemy for many CSI fans, but I really don't miss Grissom. Like, at all. I've felt for a while now that William Peterson is burned out with the show, and I just don't enjoy watching that. Plus, Grissom/Sara makes me gag. Perhaps his little sabbatical will re-energize him. ( Reverse Forensics )
I really think CSI: NY is my current favorite incarnation of the franchise. I genuinely like all the characters, and enjoy their interactions. Plus, none of the "personal stuff" that they've brought in so far has made me want to spork my eyes out. ( Fake Alibis, Inc. )
I also watched the last two episodes of Crossing Jordan last night. ( Poor Bug )

Oh, Friday Night Lights, it's good to have you back! I know I've said it before, but I love this show so much. The characters feel so real to me, and they continue to surprise me in so many ways.
( Nevermind )
( Nevermind )
I realize I'm probably late to the party on this, but I watched Little Miss Sunshine last night. Holy crap, what a fantastic movie! If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. It manages to be poignant and heartbreaking and laugh-out-loud funny, sometimes at the same time. The entire cast is sublime, but Abigail Breslin really does steal the show. It's nice to see a child actress who is really talented but still seems like a real kid, instead of a slightly creepy miniature adult a la Dakota Fanning (who I think is great, BTW, but still...creepy).
New Friday Night Lights tonight! Woohoo! If you're not watching this show, all I have to say is WHY NOT?! No, it's not just about football. There are pretty boys and angst and some of the most heartbreakingly lovable characters on TV since the divine Abbotts of Everwood, CO. (Matt Saracen, I'm looking at you.)

Monday-night TV is fun. I watch a fairly eclectic group of shows, and last night all of them were on their game.
I still enjoy How I Met Your Mother, even if Ted and his love life are the least-interesting thing about it. ( AC, baby )
I also watched The Class, which actually made me laugh out loud several times. Maybe it's getting better? Someone needs to tell Jason Ritter to cut his hair, though.
Watched Heroes "with"
monimala, and although she and I disagree over whether it's the best new show of the season, I still like it a lot. ( Mmm, Mohinder )
I admit, I've had mixed feelings about Studio 60. I loved the pilot, but several episodes since have felt overly preaching and condescending. Fortunately, I very much enjoyed the two-part episode that concluded last night. ( Nevada Day )
New Friday Night Lights and Veronica Mars tonight! Have I mentioned that FNL got a full-season order? And that I love Piz? Yay for Tuesdays!

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS HAS BEEN GIVEN A FULL-SEASON ORDER! COMMENCE THE SQUEEING!
I'm so enamored with Friday Night Lights that I changed my default icon. Everyone say hello to Tim Riggins. He's very pretty, and very angsty.
This show is just so damn good. ( El Accidente )
New Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy tonight! Woohoo!

Happy Halloween! It's not my favorite holiday, but I'm at least wearing my pumpkin earrings today.
I've probably said this before, but Friday Night Lights is totally my new Everwood. It makes me cry every freaking week! However, "Damn you, Peter Berg!" doesn't have quite the same ring to it as "Damn you, Berlanti!"
The good news is that FNL scored season-high ratings in its temporary move to the Monday 10/9c timeslot. Granted, CSI: Miami was a rerun, but I still think it benefitted from the Heroes lead-in. Besides, going up against CSI:M and the relatively weak What About Brian still seems like a better option than battling Dancing with the Stars, NCIS, Gilmore Girls, and whatever is on FOX.
( Git 'Er Done )
I'm still enjoying Heroes, although I'm no longer sure who's good or bad. I love Hiro and Ando best, though.
New Veronica Mars tonight! Although
monimala is making me watch it by myself. :(

Between Friday Night Lights, Ugly Betty, Studio 60, and Heroes, I'm loving the new TV season. But it's FNL that has truly stolen my heart...it just might be the new Everwood. (Less than stellar ratings and all.)

Oh, Veronica Mars, how do I love thee? I really enjoyed last night's episode. Sure, it didn't match the sublime glory of "A Trip to the Dentist," but it was still really good. ( Wichita Linebacker )
Philosophical fandom question: How come, when Luke acts like an ass on Gilmore Girls, it's because the writers and/or Amy Sherman-Palladino suck and made him do it, but when Chris does something, it's because he's an immature asshole of the lowest order (TM Kate Moseley) and/or the spawn of Satan. Morons.
Still need to watch last night's Friday Night Lights, but I'm sure I'll love it.
Finally, The CW has officially cancelled Runaway. Rest in peace, Everwood For this, you lost your timeslot.

So much TV, so little time. Where do I even begin?
I guess I can start with the fact that I am viciously happy that Runaway is tanking in the ratings, and that both it and 7th Heaven have been shifted to the Sunday Night Death Slots. This is what you get for cancelling Everwood, assholes!
On the other hand, I am worried about the ratings for Veronica Mars, Studio 60, and Friday Night Lights. I really thought having Gilmore Girls as a lead-in would give VM a boost. What's even more worrisome is that in a few weeks it will be going head to head with House. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that FNL is struggling, given that it airs in one of the msot competitive timeslots. I am surprised that Studio 60 isn't doing better. Why are people still watching the dreck that is CSI: Miami? David Caruso sucks.
But on to the actual shows.
I'm still loving Studio 60, particularly Matthew Perry. He and Bradley Whitford have a good rapport, and the supporting cast is solid. ( Fun with baseball bats )
I'm actually enjoying this season of Gilmore Girls. Sure, it's past its prime, but it's not the debacle that Luke/Lorelai 'shippers would have people believe. ( Shut up, Kirk )
Veronica Mars is love, people. No, not LoVe. Ick. It's fun to watch Veronica et al interact with people in a college setting, without the established hierarchy of high school. ( Going Greek )
CSI: NY is definitely my favorite incarnation of the franchise these days. I thought this week's case was really interesting, and I loved getting to see the whole team working together. ( Not quite the DaVinci Code )
I love Ugly Betty so much. It's sweet, and laugh-out-loud funny a lot of the time. Of course, the fact that Eric Mabius is hot doesn't hurt. :) ( Dance Dance Revolution )
Shonda Rhimes is really starting to piss me off. I still love Grey's Anatomy, but the fact that she is so obviously gaga for McDreamy makes me sick. Shonda, sweetie, telling us how great Derek is while having him act like an ass just doesn't cut it. ( McVomit )
There are other shows, of course, but that's more than enough for now!

Why aren't more people watching Studio 60? According to the overnight ratings, not only did it get clobbered by CSI: Miami, it got outdrawn by the 857th edition of The Bachelor! People are still watching tha crap? Seriously? Grr...
Missed Heroes last night, due to some wicked weather in the Chicago area. Nothing like hiding in the bathroom during a tornado warning... Anyway, I'm debating whether I actually care enough to try and download the show.
Watched The Class last night, since I had a half-hour to kill. Jason Ritter is great, and I laughed every time he and Lizzy Caplan were on screen, but mostly the show is crap. I would have rather had a 2nd season of Out of Practice. The woman who played the neighbor/love interest on Joey is on the show, and I've decided she's kind of useless as an actress. She just does nothing for me.
Season premiere of Veronica Mars tonight! I really, really hope that the show can retain a good percentage of its Gilmore Girls lead in--provided, of course, that all the incessantly whiny Luke/Lorelai fans screaming that they won't watch anymore are really a bunch of irritating liars and don't actually drag down the GG numbers. But I digress. I'm really looking forward to the new season of VM, and the new regulars. I am not looking forward to yet another shitstorm from the incessantly whiny Veronica/Logan fans when the inevitable break-up occurs and Veronica gets a new love interest. (These aren't spoilers, just the reality of network television.)
( GA casting spoiler )
It looks like I'm going to be able to watch Friday Night Lights after all, which I'm happy about. Yay Kyle Chandler! I'll TiVo Gilmore Girls and NCIS, and tape FNL. Of course, this whole plan falls apart if House doesn't move to 9/8c after baseball is over.
