In a previous post, I made of the mention of the fact that perhaps watching CMM on OTH would inspire me to finally remember some of my Tristan-love and finish off "Unholy Alliance." Rather to my surprise, this was met with rousing approval by more than one person.
So...I went back and read the last few chapters, just to see where I had left off. And I noticed quite a few typos, which then inspired me to go back and print out ALL of the chapters, reread, and try to find the mistakes so I can correct them on my website.
Dude. It's over 80,000 words long. And it's not even finished. That's practically book-length. And sure, some of it is crap, but even after all these years, there are parts that I genuinely like. So why the hell can't I ever find inspiration to write 80,000+ words of "real" fiction?
Okay, so I'd have to come up with my own characters. And provide backstories for them. But is that really such a terrible thing? At least then I'd be less likely to be "out of character"? :) *sigh* I know that a big part of it is discipline. I don't make the effort to write. And I don't know how to find the motivation to start. NaNo doesn't do it...so what will? Gah.

Randomly, am watching "Teach Me Tonight" on ABC Family right now, and holy crap, as much of a twerp as Jess often was, Lorelai was pretty much all about the self-righteous judgmental bitchiness in this episode, wasn't she? Come to think of it, Lor spent a lot of time with her mouth set to "condescending, snide, and holier than thou." Guess she's her mother's daughter after all.
Guess that's why I stopped caring about the show and who Lorelai was actually dating, since I didn't think she was really worthy of any of them.
(I realize this will probably be an unpopular opinion, since I think it's only cool to rag on Rory, but enh. I don't much care. Besides, no one reads this anyway.)
P.S. I still love Christopher, dammit.

Five drabbles and a ficlet... Thanks to everyone who requested something. These were fun. It's hard for me to keep things short, so this was a good exercise. I've also never written fic for Friday Night Lights or Bones--yay for more fandoms.

Well, the final nail has been put in the Gilmore Girls coffin. It was the first fandom I became involved in, and for that it will always hold a special place in my heart. I'm still in touch with some of the people I got to know at FanForum because of it. Nonetheless, I'm not really sorry to see it go. It's well past its prime, to the point where I haven't cared enough to keep up with it lately. It seems fitting to end it as Rory graduates Yale.
And on a much, much bitchier note, maybe once it's gone, the psychotic Luke/Lorelai fans will finally shut the fuck up. A girl can dream.

Top Five Movie Kisses
5. Bridget/Mark, Bridget Jones's Diary: When they're standing in the snow, and she's in her underwear, and he wraps his overcoat around her? Oy. "Nice boys don't kiss like that." "Oh yes they fucking do." Hee!
4. Anne/Gilbert, Anne of Avonlea: "I don't want diamond sunbursts or marble halls. I just want you." What else is there, really?
3. Han/Leia, The Empire Strikes Back: Nothing like making out when the ship is broken. "I happen to like nice men." "I'm nice men." "No you're not, you're..." KISS! So. Awesome.
2. Kate/Doug, The Cutting Edge: Doug's speech before their final skate gets me every time, and the kiss is the perfect ending to the film. "Don't tell me we're not right for each other, 'cause the way I see it we might not be right for anyone else." "I love you." "Just remember who said it first." *sigh*
1. Keith/Watts, Some Kind of Wonderful: I fell in love with Eric Stoltz in this movie, and to this day, their "practice" kiss in the garage gives me chills, with his fingers clutching at her jeans...guh.
Top Five 'Ships
5. Rory/Tristan, Gilmore Girls: Admittedly, I don't actually care about this pairing anymore, but they were the 'ship that dragged me kicking and screaming into fandom, and for that they must make the list. Plus, they were so pretty!
4. Sydney/Will, Alias: TPTB pretty much killed this one dead, but it was my first love on this show. I'm actually kind of glad that Bradley Cooper got out when he did, because they were never going to do right by Will. At least he got to sleep with Syd once. :)
3. Veronica/Weevil, Veronica Mars: V/Lamb may have eaten my brain lately, but V/Weevil will always be the end game for me on that show. The sparks of chemistry have been flying since the pilot, and I'm just waiting for them to explode.
2. Mal/Kaylee, Firefly: I am rampantly UC when it comes to Firefly 'ships, but this is my favorite one. Kaylee and Mal are my favorite characters on the show, and I love their dynamic as it is. But I'd love it even more if they hooked up.
1. Pacey/Joey, Dawson's Creek: P/J for the win! Yes, I grew to hate the show, because it was lame. But in the end, all was right with the world, because Pacey and Joey ended up together. Season 3 was a beautiful piece of television history, and I will always love it.
Top Five Comfort Foods

Oh, Veronica Mars, how do I love thee? I really enjoyed last night's episode. Sure, it didn't match the sublime glory of "A Trip to the Dentist," but it was still really good. ( Wichita Linebacker )
Philosophical fandom question: How come, when Luke acts like an ass on Gilmore Girls, it's because the writers and/or Amy Sherman-Palladino suck and made him do it, but when Chris does something, it's because he's an immature asshole of the lowest order (TM Kate Moseley) and/or the spawn of Satan. Morons.
Still need to watch last night's Friday Night Lights, but I'm sure I'll love it.
Finally, The CW has officially cancelled Runaway. Rest in peace, Everwood For this, you lost your timeslot.

So much TV, so little time. Where do I even begin?
I guess I can start with the fact that I am viciously happy that Runaway is tanking in the ratings, and that both it and 7th Heaven have been shifted to the Sunday Night Death Slots. This is what you get for cancelling Everwood, assholes!
On the other hand, I am worried about the ratings for Veronica Mars, Studio 60, and Friday Night Lights. I really thought having Gilmore Girls as a lead-in would give VM a boost. What's even more worrisome is that in a few weeks it will be going head to head with House. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that FNL is struggling, given that it airs in one of the msot competitive timeslots. I am surprised that Studio 60 isn't doing better. Why are people still watching the dreck that is CSI: Miami? David Caruso sucks.
But on to the actual shows.
I'm still loving Studio 60, particularly Matthew Perry. He and Bradley Whitford have a good rapport, and the supporting cast is solid. ( Fun with baseball bats )
I'm actually enjoying this season of Gilmore Girls. Sure, it's past its prime, but it's not the debacle that Luke/Lorelai 'shippers would have people believe. ( Shut up, Kirk )
Veronica Mars is love, people. No, not LoVe. Ick. It's fun to watch Veronica et al interact with people in a college setting, without the established hierarchy of high school. ( Going Greek )
CSI: NY is definitely my favorite incarnation of the franchise these days. I thought this week's case was really interesting, and I loved getting to see the whole team working together. ( Not quite the DaVinci Code )
I love Ugly Betty so much. It's sweet, and laugh-out-loud funny a lot of the time. Of course, the fact that Eric Mabius is hot doesn't hurt. :) ( Dance Dance Revolution )
Shonda Rhimes is really starting to piss me off. I still love Grey's Anatomy, but the fact that she is so obviously gaga for McDreamy makes me sick. Shonda, sweetie, telling us how great Derek is while having him act like an ass just doesn't cut it. ( McVomit )
There are other shows, of course, but that's more than enough for now!

Why aren't more people watching Studio 60? According to the overnight ratings, not only did it get clobbered by CSI: Miami, it got outdrawn by the 857th edition of The Bachelor! People are still watching tha crap? Seriously? Grr...
Missed Heroes last night, due to some wicked weather in the Chicago area. Nothing like hiding in the bathroom during a tornado warning... Anyway, I'm debating whether I actually care enough to try and download the show.
Watched The Class last night, since I had a half-hour to kill. Jason Ritter is great, and I laughed every time he and Lizzy Caplan were on screen, but mostly the show is crap. I would have rather had a 2nd season of Out of Practice. The woman who played the neighbor/love interest on Joey is on the show, and I've decided she's kind of useless as an actress. She just does nothing for me.
Season premiere of Veronica Mars tonight! I really, really hope that the show can retain a good percentage of its Gilmore Girls lead in--provided, of course, that all the incessantly whiny Luke/Lorelai fans screaming that they won't watch anymore are really a bunch of irritating liars and don't actually drag down the GG numbers. But I digress. I'm really looking forward to the new season of VM, and the new regulars. I am not looking forward to yet another shitstorm from the incessantly whiny Veronica/Logan fans when the inevitable break-up occurs and Veronica gets a new love interest. (These aren't spoilers, just the reality of network television.)

It looks like I'm going to be able to watch Friday Night Lights after all, which I'm happy about. Yay Kyle Chandler! I'll TiVo Gilmore Girls and NCIS, and tape FNL. Of course, this whole plan falls apart if House doesn't move to 9/8c after baseball is over.

If anyone is looking for a reason to rip your hair out by the roots, I recommend you head here, and read the comments posted about the interview with Lauren Graham. The arrogance, entitlement, and sanctimonious bullshit is rolling off the L/L fans in waves, as per usual. If, however, you would prefer to keep your sanity, stick to the actual interview, which I found rather interesting and entertaining.
People like that make me hate fandom...
Also, the Everwood season 1 DVD set has been hovering in the top 10 of the Amazon top sellers list for several days now, which I'm dearly hoping will prompt the release of further seasons. Money talks, people. (And the price is down to $16.99.)

I really need to stop reading message boards, since it seems like all they're managing to do is piss me off. This time around, it's the Gilmore Girls fandom that's driving me nuts. Holy sense of entitlement, Batman!
I'll be the first to admit that season six wasn't the best. The Rory/Lorelai feud seemed to drag on interminably. The long-lost-daughter storyline came out of left field, and smacked of crappy soap-opera antics. The Logan/Rory romance was sometimes painful to watch. There were other things, but I think you get my point.
When I heard that Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino were leaving the show, I didn't exactly tear my hair or rend my clothes. To be honest, I've felt they were burned out for a while now. If I recall correctly, they planned to leave the show if the Jess spinoff took off, but since it didn't, they stuck around.
The main sticking point of this show, at least for a very vocal segment of fans, is the Luke/Lorelai relationship. In the early seasons of the show, I liked the possibility of them getting together someday. They had good chemistry, and Luke was obviously crazy about her. The fact that he genuinely cared very much for Rory as well was endearing. As the show progressed, however, I became less and less enchanted with the idea. For a few seasons, Lorelai struck me as selfish and shrill, and utterly undeserving of Luke's devotion.
Of course, for me there was also the Christopher factor. For one thing, I think David Sutcliffe is gorgeous. :) But there was always a special spark between him and Lorelai, a joy and lightness that I rarely saw between her and Luke. Even their fights made for riveting television. Christopher is a long way from perfect, of course. He's been shown to be immature and irresponsible. I'm a little tired, though, of the parallel deification of Lorelai/demonization of Chris by many fans. Let us not forget that Chris was willing to marry Lorelai when she got pregnant. She probably made the right decision to refuse him, but the intent was there on his part. We know that he was an absentee father, but we've never seen his side of the story. Did he make bad decisions? Yes. Should he have made more effort with Rory? Most definitely.
Compounding the problem was the issue of David Sutcliffe moving on to his own show. Unfortunately, the writers seemed to use the actor's absence as an excuse for further character assassination. Would Chris be so reviled if he had been a recurring character all six years, developing a relationship with Rory, etc? It bothers me that issues in reality dictated the plot and character development.
Getting back to Luke and Lorelai... I simply don't understand how so many fans can insist on viewing this as a fairy-tale romance. Maybe it could have been once, but the way it's been written, that just doesn't fly. Let's start with the proposal. I can't be the only one who felt like Lorelai proposed because she was desperate for some sense of security while she and Rory were on the outs. That just doesn't scream "romance" to me--it screams "fear," "loneliness," and "codependence."
Then there's the April storyline. The fact that Luke waited months to tell Lorelai was simply unconscienable. He only compounded his idiocy by not allowing them to meet. His "I'm afraid she'll like you better" excuse is utter bullshit. I don't fault him for making April a priority, but his exclusion of Lorelai sends her the message that "you're not important enough and I don't trust you enough to let you in on this aspect of my life." That doesn't exactly say "healthy relationship" to me.
Lorelai's reaction is equally mystifying. For five years, we have gotten to know a woman who says what she thinks and feels and damn the consequences. Now, when she is in a relationship with her supposed "true love," she becomes utterly passive. Is she afraid of losing him? If she is afraid of voicing an opinion for fear of jeopardizing their relationship, how secure is that relationship to begin with? Should she really be with someone who doesn't even seem to notice when her character and attitude do a complete 180?
It all came to a head in Tuesday's finale. ( Cut for spoilers )
And don't even get me started on the LoVe fans who are already threatening to protest if ( a little more rantage )

(ten points to the first person who can identify the lyric in the post title)
I realize that being a Lorelai/Christopher supporter in the Gilmore Girls fandom is about as popular as being a Veronica/Weevil fan in the Veronica Mars fandom. Possibly even less so. I also realize that going into the "Luke v. Christopher" thread over at TWoP is just plain masochistic. But I did it, and now I have to deal with the consequences. Specifically, wanting to wash my brain with bleach.
Look, I get it, okay? Luke and Lorelai are TOTALLYMEANTOBE4EVAOMG!!!1!!111! I just don't care. Sure, in reality, I would probably pick a Luke over a Christopher, because Luke is stable and supportive and all that other wonderful stuff that the Palladinos have been shoving down our throats for the past six years. But Lorelai and Christopher are so much more interesting to me. There's all sorts of unfinished business there. I have to wonder how the show would have progressed if David Sutcliffe hadn't ended up on I'm With Her. Would the L/C relationship have been allowed to develop? Would Chris have cultivated a relationship with Rory, perhaps coming to her graduation, etc?
*sigh* I know there's no point in arguing with the L/L fans, which is why I'm posting this here instead of on a message board. I just needed to vent. And to be contrary, I'm totally going to use my brand-spanking-new Lorelai/Chris icon. So there. :)
One final random thought: in last week's episode, Lorelai showed Pretty in Pink to April and her friends. I was always bothered by the end of PiP, because I was totally rooting for Duckie. But wouldn't it be funny if Lorelai ended up with her Blaine instead of with her Duckie? I would laugh and laugh...

angel_grace
Rating: PG
Pairing: Rory/Logan, Rory/Tristan(ish)
Summary: Slightly AU. After graduating from military school, Tristan attended Yale, where he reconnected with Rory and Paris. Although he and Rory have become friends, they have never dated. Now, graduation is upon them. All other canon events have occurred, and Logan is still in the picture.
Disclaimer: Gilmore Girls and the characters depicted here were created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, and are the property of Hofflund-Polone and Dorothy Parker Drank Here Productions. They are used without permission. No copyright infringement is intended, and no profit is being made from their use.
Author's Note: This story is long overdue, and for that I must apologize. Some time ago, I put out a call for five fic requests. Four of them got written in a timely fashion. This is the fifth. In my defense, it's really hard to get inspired about Tristan when Chad Michael Murray has turned out to be an unrepentant dickwad. Anyway,
mrs_boyscout, this one's for you. It's probably not as romantic as you might have hoped, and honestly, I'm not entirely convinced it doesn't suck, but it was the best I could do.

Finally got around to watching last week's episode of Gilmore Girls, and while there were some really strong scenes, parts of it totally frustrated me. ( The Prodigal Daughter Returns )
I enjoyed Bones last night. Zack is totally my favorite of the squints. He was adorable when he figured out the "phone number." Sadly, Emily Deschanel is easily the weakest link in the cast. She needs to spend less time looking like she just sucked on something sour. I'm still loving David Boreanaz--he totally brings the funny. Next week looks interesting. I sense jealousy on the horizon!
I am really looking forward to tonight's episode off Veronica Mars, although I'm not entirely sure when I'll have time to watch it. I'm going out tonight with friends for our annual pre-Thanksgiving dinner.
Speaking of which, HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all my fellow Americans!

Watched Lost yesterday. I enjoyed it more than the last couple of weeks, but it still wasn't spectacular. I enjoy Hurley a lot, though, so it was cool seeing his flashbacks. Still, time seems to be moving ridiculously slowly--we've covered what, two days in four episodes?
( A few more thoughts )
It really makes me sad that more people don't watch Everwood. It's such a great, great show, with some of the best acting on TV today. Emily Van Camp, Chris Pratt, Tom Amandes...oh, hell, the whole Abbott family rules. Strange to think that when the show began, it seemed to be about the Browns...
( No tears this week )
Gilmore Girls was really good this week, and it set the stage for some major changes. Personally, I'm tired of the rift between Rory and Lorelai, and I hope it ends soon.
( Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy )
Watched part of Celebrity Poker Showdown last night, featuring the men of Desperate Housewives. They are hysterical together. I think I love Doug Savant. Jamie Denton is freakin' adorable. And who knew Ricardo Chavira was so funny? I'll have to catch the rest of the ep sometime.
And finally...there are some new "Now or Never" shirts over at TWoP, including a green "Go Pirates" hoodie. I feel like I was supposed to tell someone if they ever sold anything like that again (
meegzi31, perhaps?), but I can't remember who, so I'm hoping that whoever it was sees this post.

So much TV, so little time. I still need to watch the two-hour "finale" of Stargate: Atlantis, as well as the season premiere of Desperate Housewives, but that leaves plenty of shows to cover!
Going back a week...finally watched the season premiere of Arrested Development. Damn, that show is funny! It makes me sad that more people don't watch it. Given their penchant for cancelling great shows before their time (Keen Eddie, Firefly), I really give FOX credit for sticking with the show. It certainly deserves the support. Who knew the kid from The Hogan Family would have such impeccable comic timing? Jason Bateman is still my favorite part of the show, but the rest of the cast--particularly Will Arnett, Jeffrey Tambor, and David Cross--is also fantastic. And I love that there's actually an imoscar.com website.
Also watched Monday's episode of Prison Break. I enjoy the show, but, I don't know, it's still lacking somehow. ( Breaking it down )
Numb3rs is back! I missed you, Charlie. :) I really enjoyed the season premiere, and it was great to see that Navi Rawat has been promoted to the opening credits. I'll miss Sabrina Lloyd, but I thought Diane Farr did a nice job. ( 3.1415926 )
I really liked the season premiere of Crossing Jordan. I wasn't thrilled with the way some things were left in last year's finale, and I wasn't sure how they would be addressed. Most of it was good, fortunately. ( We're off to the see the Wizard )
Grey's Anatomy still rocks, even if Meh-redith is useless. George is still beyond adorable, and Cristina kicks ass. ( Paging Dr. McDreamy )
If there are any fans of Wicked (the book, not the musical) reading this, here's a heads-up: the sequel, called Son of a Witch, is being released tomorrow. It picks up after Dorothy melts the Wicked Witch, and focuses on the young man who may or may not be Elphaba's son.
Season 4 of Gilmore Girls comes out on DVD tomorrow, so I'll be picking that up as well. I haven't seen most of S4, so it will be fun to watch "new" episodes.

I'll be posting a separate entry for Lost, because let's face it--it deserves one.

( Supernatural )
( Bones )
( House )
Wow. That was long. Damn crowded Tuesday night TV.
I'm not planning on watching Reunion tonight, because CSI is premiering. Also because it is dumb. I expect it will experience a precipitous drop in ratings, not only because of CSI, but also because two weeks have passed since the premiere. But that's just my feeling.

Last night sucked. I went to bed pretty early (around 9:15), because I've been short on sleep lately, and I just needed the rest. Unfortunately, I was woken up at 2:30 in the morning with horrible pain in my stomach. I threw up a few times, which was just delightful, and that made me feel a lot better. I went back to bed after I was finished being sick, and I managed to fall back asleep pretty quickly, thank goodness. But I still felt totally fatigued when the alarm went off this morning.
Work has been a little bit slow today, which sucks, because at least when I'm busy, the times goes by more quickly. I should stay until four, which is only an hour away, but I'm really tempted to leave at 3:30 and make up the time. I only have to work a half-day on Friday anyway, so it wouldn't be that big of a deal.
Obviously, since I went to bed so early, I didn't get to watch Rescue Me last night, but I'm sure my trusty TiVo recorded it. I did watch the rerun of House, and it was actually one of my least favorite episodes, since in it Chase acts like a total ass about overweight people and is revealed to be a sneaky rat bastard snitching to Vogler. Grr.
I finally started writing chapter 39 of Unholy Alliance, which I really want to finish soon. I'm going to try and wrap it up in 40 chapters, but I don't know if that's going to work out. At least, not without making the chapters really long. Maybe I'll do two more chapters and then an epilogue... Once I actually get my two main characters together, I pretty much lose interest in the story, so it's not like I want to go into detail about their future together. But there are a couple key things I want to mention, and an epilogue might be the easiest way to do it.
I've been reading quite a bit of fanfic lately, which I hadn't done in a while--mostly John/Elizabeth (squee! Stargate: Atlantis) and Lex/Chloe, which amuses me since I haven't watched Smallville since season 1. I just can't stomach Lana. Bleargh.
I'm also working on an update for Proud & Prejudiced, trying to get our currently archived WIPs up to date. Right now I'm really wishing Juana's All I Want wasn't 67 chapters and counting... And I thought UA was long! I also need to e-mail the authors of the WIPs, to see if they have perhaps updated their stories somewhere other than ff.net. *sigh* We really need to come up with some kind of automated archiving feature that still allows us to have voting approval of the stories. It would make things go so much faster...
