I realize that the portion of the Internet devoted to analyzing TV is still on the 'bash Grey's Anatomy bandwagon' and that it's still trendy to hate on Private Practice. I don't really care. I'd turn in my Cool Card, but I've never been cool, so there you go.
First up is PP, which I think has greatly improved since S1. The Addison I grew to love at Seattle Grace seems to be back, which is a key point in my enjoyment of the show. (The fact that they have--at least temporarily--abandoned her chemistry-less flirtation with Pete helps too.) ( In which Dell is both hot and opinionated )
I really do think that GA has experienced a resurgence this season, regardless of Dead Denny. ( Going Solo )

A totally spoiler-filled, somewhat incoherent, squeeful commentary on tonight's GA. Also, if TWoP (which, seriously, is a giant pit of asshattery these days) is anything to go by,
monimala and I are the only people in the whole world who liked it.

It feels odd, but...I actually enjoyed Grey's Anatomy last night. Was it as good as it once was? No, probably not. But at least it made me remember why I cared about these characters in the first place.
( Water, water everywhere )
In other news, CSI broke my heart a little, Ugly Betty is still amusing, and Life On Mars didn't grab me at all--I turned it off about five minutes in.

It's still January 1st where I am, so this is technically only a day late! Yesterday was lunacy--my apologies for the delay.

I'm already sick of winter, and it hasn't even officially started yet. *sigh*
On the plus side, Gossip Girl continues to be awesome, and Private Practice is currently more enjoyable than Grey's Anatomy. Meanwhile, Ugly Betty is having what I'd like to call a sophomore anti-slump.

There was a lot to like about this week's episodes of Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy. While that has been pretty consistently true of UB, GA has been fairly mediocre for a while now, and I feel like it's starting to hit its stride again.
( Grin and bear it )
Meanwhile, over at Seattle Grace, things are finally coming to a head. The truth is out now, and that leads to all sorts of interesting confrontations. ( Shut up, Izzie )

Last night was enjoyable. I watched Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy, made myself a few new icons, and even wrote a Veronica Mars/Sam Winchester fic that I'll be posting later.
UB continues to be one of the most consistently enjoyable shows on TV. It seems to be deftly avoiding the sophomore slump, even introducing a new character that I really enjoyed. ( Black & White Ball )
GA does seem to be better this year, but it still has its annoying moments. ( Tongue-tied )

Two drabbles and a ficlet, from the prompts requested earlier this week. I'm still working on some of the others, so don't despair if it isn't here. It's just a question on inspiration.

Count me as one of the people who absolutely loved the pilot of Private Practice (or "Addison's Anatomy" or "Grey's 2.0" or whatever you want to call it). Maybe I'm just shallow and blinded by the pretty, but I thought it was great fun. For a more objective take, my mom thinks it's going to be a huge hit.

Okay, this week's installment of GA was MUCH better than last week's. Almost rivals the post-Super Bowl ep. I love Alex and Addison and Izzie so much. ( Spoilery comment )
I haven't really weighed in on the Isaiah Washington-TR Knight debacle, at least not in this forum. I don't know all the details or circumstances, but my knee-jerk reaction is to want Isaiah's head on a platter. For purely selfish reasons, though, relating directly to my enjoyment of the show, I can't help hoping he doesn't get fired. When I watch, I forget about all the outside bullshit, and I am captivated by Burke/Cristina.
( George O'Malley, sex machine )
I ended up watching Jay Leno last night, because Sendhil Ramamurthy (which I hope I spelled right) was going to be on. Wanda Sykes was on before him, and she was hysterical. But "Mohinder" was also awesome and funny. I had no idea that he was a Chicago native. Very cool. And so. damn. hot.

Today was a very long day. I was at work for 10 1/2 hours, which sucked. On the plus side, I got to come home and watch Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy. Additionally, the first episode of S2 of Everwood aired today in ABC Family. I TiVoed it, and will transfer it to DVD. I'm planning on recording every episode of seasons 2-4, since the bastards won't put out the DVDs.
Since I'm exhausted, just a few quick thoughts on tonight's TV.

So much TV, so little time. Where do I even begin?
I guess I can start with the fact that I am viciously happy that Runaway is tanking in the ratings, and that both it and 7th Heaven have been shifted to the Sunday Night Death Slots. This is what you get for cancelling Everwood, assholes!
On the other hand, I am worried about the ratings for Veronica Mars, Studio 60, and Friday Night Lights. I really thought having Gilmore Girls as a lead-in would give VM a boost. What's even more worrisome is that in a few weeks it will be going head to head with House. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that FNL is struggling, given that it airs in one of the msot competitive timeslots. I am surprised that Studio 60 isn't doing better. Why are people still watching the dreck that is CSI: Miami? David Caruso sucks.
But on to the actual shows.
I'm still loving Studio 60, particularly Matthew Perry. He and Bradley Whitford have a good rapport, and the supporting cast is solid. ( Fun with baseball bats )
I'm actually enjoying this season of Gilmore Girls. Sure, it's past its prime, but it's not the debacle that Luke/Lorelai 'shippers would have people believe. ( Shut up, Kirk )
Veronica Mars is love, people. No, not LoVe. Ick. It's fun to watch Veronica et al interact with people in a college setting, without the established hierarchy of high school. ( Going Greek )
CSI: NY is definitely my favorite incarnation of the franchise these days. I thought this week's case was really interesting, and I loved getting to see the whole team working together. ( Not quite the DaVinci Code )
I love Ugly Betty so much. It's sweet, and laugh-out-loud funny a lot of the time. Of course, the fact that Eric Mabius is hot doesn't hurt. :) ( Dance Dance Revolution )
Shonda Rhimes is really starting to piss me off. I still love Grey's Anatomy, but the fact that she is so obviously gaga for McDreamy makes me sick. Shonda, sweetie, telling us how great Derek is while having him act like an ass just doesn't cut it. ( McVomit )
There are other shows, of course, but that's more than enough for now!

Why aren't more people watching Studio 60? According to the overnight ratings, not only did it get clobbered by CSI: Miami, it got outdrawn by the 857th edition of The Bachelor! People are still watching tha crap? Seriously? Grr...
Missed Heroes last night, due to some wicked weather in the Chicago area. Nothing like hiding in the bathroom during a tornado warning... Anyway, I'm debating whether I actually care enough to try and download the show.
Watched The Class last night, since I had a half-hour to kill. Jason Ritter is great, and I laughed every time he and Lizzy Caplan were on screen, but mostly the show is crap. I would have rather had a 2nd season of Out of Practice. The woman who played the neighbor/love interest on Joey is on the show, and I've decided she's kind of useless as an actress. She just does nothing for me.
Season premiere of Veronica Mars tonight! I really, really hope that the show can retain a good percentage of its Gilmore Girls lead in--provided, of course, that all the incessantly whiny Luke/Lorelai fans screaming that they won't watch anymore are really a bunch of irritating liars and don't actually drag down the GG numbers. But I digress. I'm really looking forward to the new season of VM, and the new regulars. I am not looking forward to yet another shitstorm from the incessantly whiny Veronica/Logan fans when the inevitable break-up occurs and Veronica gets a new love interest. (These aren't spoilers, just the reality of network television.)
( GA casting spoiler )
It looks like I'm going to be able to watch Friday Night Lights after all, which I'm happy about. Yay Kyle Chandler! I'll TiVo Gilmore Girls and NCIS, and tape FNL. Of course, this whole plan falls apart if House doesn't move to 9/8c after baseball is over.

Two of my favorite shows got underway last night. I watched the season premieres of both Grey's Anatomy and CSI. (For those keeping track of such things, I TiVoed both, but watched GA live, and then watched the recording of CSI.)
( George, Izzie, McDreamy, oh my )
Considering how annoyed I was with the way S6 ended, I was a little worried about the premiere of CSI. ( More than a John Mayer ad )

It will be a miracle if tonight's two-hour season finale of Grey's Anatomy doesn't kill me, since last night's episode just about did me in. ( Holy shit )
Grey's Anatomy is back and...well, maybe not better than ever, but it's still damn good. ( I'll buy the dog if I can have the McVet )
Hey, y'all. I'm still alive, albeit barely. I've been out of town the past two consecutive weekends, in completely different states, at that, and it's all been a bit much. I'm completely behind in my television viewing, with the exception of Grey's Anatomy, because that show ATE. MY. BRAIN. Holyfuck, when did Chris O'Donnell get all sorts of scruffy hot? I mean, I've adored him since Fried Green Tomatoes, but he has now surpassed all previous levels of hotness. Oy.
That's all I've got for now. Seriously. No brain left.

Taken from the FAQ section of ABC's Grey's Anatomy website (bold added by me):
Is Dylan dead?
Dylan is dead. He is not coming back. And he doesn't have a twin brother who is surgeon. Kyle Chandler, who played Dylan, is a very nice guy but he is busy. He is, in fact, making a pilot for a TV version of the movie "Friday Night Lights." Yes, he is cute. Yes, he is as nice as he seems on TV. Yes, we all want to lick him inappropriately. But that does not change the fact that Dylan is dead.
This totally made me giggle

Ah, Grey's Anatomy. Just when I start to think you can't possibly maintain such a high level of awesomeness, you prove me wrong. I admit, I was a little nervous at the end of last week's episode, fearing the inevitable George/Meh fallout. Turns out, I needn't have worried.
( K-k-k-karma )
In other news, I got to meet
mrs_boyscout yesterday. She's just as sweet and awesome in person as she is on lj, and her daughter is too cute for words. Unfortunately, the little munchkin wasn't feeling well (she actually got sick all over the couch while I was there), so I didn't stay too long. Still, it was quite fun, and I'm very sad that she's moving soon!
I still have to write two ficlets from last week's free-for-all, but I haven't forgotten, I promise!
And finally, I am beyond thrilled with the results of Dancing with the Stars. To quote Drew, WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
