Holy TV, Batman

Chase, House, Jesse Spencer, rat
Well, this is the last week before my TV viewing schedule goes absolutely, completely batshit insane. I've already dropped one new show--True Blood--since I couldn't even compel myself to watch the entire first episode. The new 90210 is still on probation. Ryan Eggold is all kinds of hot, but the fact that I'm mostly watching for the grownups--some of whom aren't even series regulars--doesn't exactly bode well. Despite it not being part of my original fall grid, I've added Privileged to the lineup, and it's a stronger contender than 90210. Adding it does make Tuesdays at 8 iffy, though, at least until Greek and Eureka finish their current runs.

I had hoped to be caught up with House before the season premiere tonight, but that didn't quite happen. I'm through episode 5 of S4, so only 11 to go--a lot closer than the 35 I was behind a few weeks ago! So far, I'm not minding the arc of House finding a new team. I've read a lot of bitching and moaning about Chase and Cameron being marginalized, but so far I just don't care. Cameron mostly irritated me anyway, and although Jesse Spencer is gorgeous, I often felt that Chase was underdeveloped. His new dynamic with House is more compelling to me, even though there's less focus on his character.

After I finish marathoning House, I really need to tackle Supernatural, and then Lost.

Monday night TV this week was good, if not great. For starters, Chuck and Blair continue to be the best thing about Gossip Girl. XOXO )

As noted in last night's very brief entry, One Tree Hill made me cry. Like, a lot. James Lucas Scott FTW )

Last but not least, there was Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I just really enjoy this show, even when it's maybe not the most exciting episode. Silkwood Showers )

I am a big sobbing, bawling mess, and it's all One Tree Hill's fault. Dammit, I did not need to relive my own high school trauma.

Fuck.

Oh, TV, I've missed you. Sure, I had my summer dalliances with So You Think You Can Dance, The Middleman, Psych, etc. But it feels like forever since there was a full slate of shows for me to anticipate. We're not actually there yet, as the premieres are spread out over the next month or two, but last night got things off to a pretty good start.

For starters, there was the return of Gossip Girl. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure, but if Matt Nathanson can cop to watching it, then I guess it's good enough for me. Overall, I was pleased with the season premiere. The things I enjoy were still there, as were the things that annoy. Summer, Kind of Wonderful )

Although I don't plan to keep up with it once Heroes is back on, I did watch One Tree Hill last night. The deification of Lucas Scott )

Finally, I watched the season (possibly series?) finale of The Middleman. Not the best, not the worst. I definitely have a few issues with the show, but overall I enjoy it. If it doesn't get renewed, I won't exactly be rending my garments. Cue the goatees of evil )

I am working on a Veronica/Lamb apocafic. It's going very slowly, as I am apparently incapable of writing anything short and fun. It's all plotty and angsty and why won't they just have sex already?!

Finale fever

Seeley Booth, Bones, David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel, Temperance Brennan
*sigh* So I realize that everyone is pretty much OMGWTFBBQ about the Bones finale, but I gotta say...I'm surprisingly okay with it. Even more, I sorta saw it coming months ago. It's really all about Booth and Brennan )

In other news, I absolutely loved the Gossip Girl finale. Shut up, Serena )

Also watched the OTH finale... 1) Shut up, Peyton. 2) Shut up, Lucas. 3) I vote Brooke/Dr. Hottie. 4) Haley-Nathan-Jamie-Quentin for the effing WIN. Love them. That is all Oh! Except that the thing with Dan was AWESOME and the ending with Lucas was 27 kinds of lame.

I'm still not sure why I watch

Okay, I get that OTH really wants me to root for Lucas and Peyton as a couple, but mostly they just make me want to vomit on my television. That said... there were a couple okay points tonight )

Okay, I have a confession. After a hiatus of three or so years, and a strong belief that the show pretty much sucks, I...I watched the two-hour season premiere of One Tree Hill last week. Damn you, writers' strike! What have you wrought?

So here's the thing...I, um, didn't totally hate it. And *gulp* I'll probably keep watching, at least until something better comes along. Sure, it's totally unrealistic. And yes, Lucas pretty much needs to be slapped upside the head every 7.3 seconds or so. But I'm basically going to be watching for one reason, and that reason is spoilery )

Also went to see a sneak preview of 27 Dresses this afternoon, and I really liked it. Was it predictable? Yes. Was it fluffy? Yes. Was it a bit cheesy? Sure, but I went to college in Wisconsin, so me and cheese? Likethis. Katherine Heigl made me remember that it's Izzie I loathe, not KH herself. And James Marsden seriously needs to be the new go-to guy for romantic comedy leads. Seriously. He should have every role Matthew McConaughey has ever smarmed his way through. (And I like Matthew McConaughey. Or I did. Back in his A Time to Kill days. Which was, um, 12 years ago.) Plus JM has the prettiest blue eyes I've seen since...Chris O'Donnell back in, like 1993. Hee.

Have I mentioned how much I adore Veronica Mars? I honestly believe that this is the best new show on television, and in the top five best shows overall. So why aren't more people watching it?! I'm putting out a call to all the people on my f-list: if you're not already watching VM, please do so. Especially if your TV show of choice on Tuesdays at 9/8c is One Tree Hill. VM blows OTH out of the water. Those of you who already watch the show along with me, show the love! Keep pimping it in your LJ! Use Veronica Mars icons and signatures at any message board you post on!

As for last night's episode... SQUEEEEEEEEE! )

The women of American Idol were mostly meh. 'Nough said.

Just finished watching my tape of last night's Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill. Holy cow, both episodes were awesome!

First up: GG. Behind the cut for those who haven't seen )

And then I watched OTH. Now, I haven't really been watching regularly, because, well, it's a bad show. But then last night, my darling [info]filmobsessed137 informed me that my beloved JAKE made an appearance. Well, then I had to watch. (Thank heavens I had taped the show for a friend!)

Again, behind the cut )

I'm trying very hard not to throw up right now. I cannot afford to get sick. Ugh. I feel like crap.

It is Wednesday. Which means…absolutely nothing.

So, American Idol wasn’t on last night, thanks to President Bush, hereafter known as the Imbecile In Charge of Our Country (IICOC). While I missed the pure entertainment derived from eight remaining finalists desecrating a new batch of songs, I did get to watch new episodes of Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill without having to resort to videotape.

But first, let me express my undying love for Everwood. Thoughts on Monday’s episode )

Moving on to Gilmore Girls, I have to say that I am really enjoying this season. As I think I’ve mentioned before, I didn’t watch regularly last year, because the Rory/Jess situation was so hateworthy. New episode squeeage )

During the first commercial break of One Tree Hill last night, I called my best friend (who is 27, male, and watches OTH obsessively with his wife) and said “This show is so trashy.” Spoilery OTH commentary )

On a somewhat different tack, I am a review whore. I admit it. I love getting feedback for my stories. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. When I open up my Hotmail account, and see a bunch of messages from bot@fanfiction.com, I can’t help but grin.

And then I read them. While some are sweet and articulate and give me good insight into what people like, the majority? Are so. Fucking. Stupid. “UPDATE!! PLEASE!!” is not a review. And please don’t tell me how to write the story, or what the plot should be. Tell me what you like or dislike about the plot, the characterization, the dialogue, but don’t tell me what to do. This is not writing by committee. Eesh. And read the author’s notes, okay? I don’t just write them for fun.

I watch too much TV. It’s as simple as that. It’s not as though I don’t have better things I could be doing. I’m just…addicted. So, without further adieu, yet another week’s worth of Thoughts on TV Shows I Taped.

Yesterday was a good TV night. First I watched Gilmore Girls, which, oddly enough, was the low point of the evening. Is it my imagination, or is absolutely nothing happening on this show this season? There seems to be very little in the way of actual story arcs that last multiple episodes. I still think there's a lot of talent to be utilized, but the characters are getting progressively less and less worthy of my time and attention. Plus, Rory needs to be slapped. There was a fantastic Kirk/Luke scene, which just goes to show that there doesn't need to be an actual Gilmore Girl in the shot for it to be quality television. The utter absence of Taylor was also a blessing.

So then I watched 24, which I had never, ever seen before, but which [info]trixalicious, [info]stephdub, [info]aliasrlm, [info]sullymel, et al have been raving about for quite some time. I figured it was worth a shot.

24 ramblage )

Okay, so I know that last week I wrote about what a terrible show One Tree Hill is, and with the premiere of 24, I had absolutely no intention of watching it. But then they showed a preview during GG, and there was BuffShirtlessCMM, and I couldn't resist, so I taped it. And much to my astonishment, it really wasn't bad. OTH thoughts... )

I so need a Bright icon...

So, I wrote a whole gushing entry about this week's episode of Everwood, but then I managed to lose the post and I didn't have the heart to re-type it. Now, I'm mostly trying to find new ways to procrastinate at work, so let's try again...

Everwood musings )

I've decided that One Tree Hill is a horrible, horrible show. I tried watching again this week, for the hotness that is CMM, my enjoyment of Bethany Joy Lenz, and my holdover romantic comedy love for both Moira Kelly and Craig Sheffer (for The Cutting Edge and Some Kind of Wonderful, respectively). But I just couldn't do it. I made it to the half-way mark, and it felt like the show had been on for three hours. It's just bad.

In other, non-TV-related news, I'm going to see Simon & Garfunkle at the United Center tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to it...I remember watching a tape my dad had of their concert in Central Park when I was very small. My parents are going with, but so are two of my friends, as well as one of the friend's mom and dad. So it should be fun.

I have a bunch of things to babble about today.

First off, I am loving the return of first-run TV. Not so much loving having to go over to the 'rents' house to watch it, due to my continued lack of satellite service.

Everwood is a beautiful, beautiful show. On paper, it seems like it would be really maudlin, and sappy, and depressing, but the actors kick so much ass that it totally works. I have newfound respect for Treat Williams. Gregory Smith and Tom Amandes both rock. Vivien Cardone is the only non-annoying child actor on TV. And Chris Pratt just makes me want to hug him.

More Everwood thoughts and rants... )

Watched Gilmore Girls last night, for the first time in months. I pretty much missed the entire 3rd season. It just didn't interest me. I was pleasantly surprised by the 4th-season premiere. It was flawed, certainly, but it had enough bright spots to make it worthwhile. And I didn't want to smack Lorelai even once. Taylor, on the other hand...

I watched One Tree Hill, because I'm still a sucker for CMM. Based on the pilot episode, it is a very bad show. Very bad. The dialogue was laughable, much of the acting was wooden, and once again, the female lead fails to make me see why one guy, let along more than one, would be pining for her. Hilarie Burton's Peyton is getting dumped into the pile with Lana Lang, Amy Abbott, and Marissa Cooper. Blech.

My Cubbies are currently in first place in the NL Central! They lead the evil, evil Astros by one game (thank you, San Francisco!). I'm going to the last game of the regular season on Sunday...if they have it clinched, or can clinch it with that game, it's going to be one hell of a party.

As for RL...

Boring RL rant... )
