Oh, Ugly Betty, thank you so much for an episode that didn't make me cringe. After the awful Henry-Charlie nonsense, Wili's over-the-top manipulation of a person's mental health (a personal hot-button issue for me), and the prolonged separation of Marc and Amanda, there was quite a bit about the second half of the season that I haven't really enjoyed. However, I finally watched this week's episode, and on the whole I really, really enjoyed it. Gio for the win )

MTV is marathoning the last season of SYTYCD. I love this show beyond reason. Can't wait for the new season!

Stuff and nonsense

James Marsden
It has not been a particularly excellent week. Work is continuing to stress me out something fierce, to the point of turning me into an insomniac. There has to be a way to turn my brain off that doesn't involve drinking 3/4 of a bottle of wine. No one wants an alcoholic Gracie.

On top of the work nonsense, I had some issue with my house on Tuesday. Oh joy, oh bliss. Is it time to pay the mortgage again yet?

On the plus side, Matt Nathanson's new album comes out next Tuesday (which I am totally buying as an early birthday present to myself), and he is touring in support of said album, so I have bought two tickets and will finally get to see him live in October. Whee!

I haven't forgotten the remainder of the crossover fic prompts--life has just been a bit too hellish for any serious amount of writing. As of right now, I have no plans this weekend, which sounds like the best thing ever these days, so I'm hoping to knock a few more off then.

I also updated my personal fanfic site yesterday, Manifested Delusions. I don't know that anyone ever goes there but me, since all of my fics from about the past four years are easily accessible through my "fanfic" tag. On the other hand, the fic site has pictures of pretty boys on it, so I guess that's something.

I'm continuing to mostly ignore the latest LJ kerfluffle. I currently have no plans to backup my journal elsewhere, or jump ship. I don't feel like I post enough to make it worth the effort. And really, if all the psychotic HP fans (who seem to be the primary targets of the scuffles with LJ/6A; this is not to say that all HP fans are psychotic) disappeared, I'm not sure that would be a bad thing. If that makes me a bitch, enh. Life goes on.

In other fannish news, I'm still dreadfully behind with both Psych and entourage, but I've been starting to dive back into entourage the past few days. It's not a show that I desperately have to see the second it airs, but I really love it when I watch it. I'm sure I'll feel the same way once I sit down to watch Psych again. I'm still enjoying Greek a ridiculous amount (and would someone write Cappie/Casey fic already?), I'm thrilled that Burn Notice has been renewed, because Jeffrey Donovan rocks, and I'm still watching Night Shift, even though some of the production values are eye-rollingly bad. (The totally fake outdoor shots always make me giggle.) Also, So You Think You Can Dance is still all sorts of fun, but somehow not quite as satisfying this summer as last. Possibly because there is no Travis. On the other hand, even though I'm not a Neil fan, I was totally enjoying his pants last night. I still think Danny is the best dancer on the show.

I haven't seen a movie since POTC: AWE, but I really want to see Becoming Jane, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and The Bourne Ultimatum (not necessarily in that order). I'm in desperate need of a movie buddy. :(

Lazy, hazy, crazy days

The O.C., Ben McKenzie, Ryan
It's been a pretty quiet summer, TV-wise. Wednesdays and Thursdays are really my only "must-see" nights, although I've been enjoying the reruns of The O.C. on SoapNet Monday through Friday. (For the record, Ryan will always be awesome, while Seth was quirky and adorable for one season before turning into a self-absorbed asshat. And he totally didn't deserve Summer.)

Last summer's addiction to So You Think You Can Dance has continued with season 3. Although none of the competitors have enthralled me the way a couple people did last year, I think the actual dancing is better.

I also watched the premiere of Burn Notice last Thursday, and I really enjoyed it. For one thing, I'm simply thrilled to have Jeffrey Donovan back on my TV. The show is fairly lighthearted, with a bit of an edge, and I think it fits well with USA's other original programming. More thoughts )

The show I'm most invested in, though, is Traveler. I originally tuned in because of Steven Culp, but I've stuck around because I love the story. Matthew Bomer, Logan Marshall-Green, and Aaron Stanford are all compelling as the three main characters, and I'm usually on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen. I realize the chances of the show surviving are pretty slim, so I'm just enjoying it while it lasts.

There's been some interesting casting news for a number of fall pilots. I'm disappointed for Merrin Dungey, since I enjoy her as an actress. However, Kate Walsh, Tim Daly, Taye Diggs, Paul Adelstein, and Chris Lowell are more than enough reasons for me to watch Private Practice.

In contrast, the addition of Jason Dohring to the Moonlight cast is reason enough for me not to watch. It already sounded like a mediocre Angel ripoff, but this is the final nail in the coffin. The sad thing is that I don't really have anything against him as an actor, but I refuse to subject myself to the idiocy of his rabid fangirls. I don't want to watch a show in which an obnoxiously vocal segment of the viewing population will undoubtedly attempt to marginalize the actual series star just because they think Dohring is OMGSOHOT. Been there, done that, not going back.
